1997 4Runner

I've had my 1997 4Runner for about a year now. The previous owner didn't take any care of this vehicle. There are two rust spots that seem to be beneath the clearcoat on the roof. They drive me crazy. I don't know where I should start trying to clean this thing. Should I buy a Zaino kit and spend a day at it, or should I go another route. I'm confused about a lof of options at Autopia.org. I need to be able to clean pretty much everything in the vehicle: underbody, paint, trimming, running boards, interior, etc... I'm thinking about taking the wheels off as well, just to get to all of the tar and crap that's under there. The vehicle has right at 158,000 miles- so you can imagine. I'm pretty sure he only took it through an automatic wash every other month or something. It's hard for me to be motivated to wash it, and know that there are still spots: aka rust, that I can't do anything about. Please help!

take a picture and we'll go from there. i just recently reached 150K and i'm also a neat/clean freak myself. I always keep my space open and cleaned. but i've been researching alot about how to repair dents, scratches, and other intermediate repairs for vehicles. i've rarely done some of them myself but i could give some pointers if you want.
