1997 bumper on a 2000 4runner

My son crunched the bumper, valance and grill on my 2000 4runner. Anyone know if a bumper from a 1996,97 or 98 will bolt on? If it does are the yurn signal connectors the same? The turn signals on the 1999 up 4runners are in the plastic valance under the bumper and in the bumper itself on 96-98 so I could do away with the valance for more front approach angle.

There's very little info on this, and it's all conflicting. Best thread I saw was over on ih8mud where 2 people swapped. As I recall, the early bumper bolted right up to the later vehicle with zero issues. There were a few photos (but they might have been from the early vehicle with the later bumper, which needed a small modification to the mounting bracket).

All the threads I found here were full of people saying it couldn't be done.
