1997 ltd random 3 alarm beeps

so im sitting in my house and my runner's alarm goes off all of a sudden and does a quick 3 beeps then stops... this is the second time it has done that. I wasnt messing with the key fob or anything as the keys were on my bed in my room and i was in the living room. does anyone know what this means?

the vehicle was locked using the key fob when i parked it.

While I haven't yet had the 3 beeps, my alarm does weird shit at random too.

Today I went to the post office and when I hit the alarm button to arm it — it decided to set the alarm off instead. After looking like a dork in the parking lot, I was able to silence the alarm but couldn't get it to confirm a re-arm (no chirp). Had packages in my arms so I left it thinking my truck was unlocked.

Finally got back out to the truck to find the truck locked and alarm on. I hit the unlock button and didn't get the double un-armed chirp, but the doors did unlock. So I was grabing something out of the back when the truck auto-armed itself (a feature I had previously turned off a couple months ago).

This sort of behavior is something I've come to expect and accept from my 97 limited. You probably should too. :biggrin2:

that is weird. my factory key fob is weird as well as only the top button works. so to lock i hit the top button. to unlock i again hit the top button. bottom button does nothing...

My 97 does the three beeps if something is done to the truck. Like if it is vibrated or hit by something that the system doesn't think requires a full alarm. Almost like a warning. I have done that by grabbing the driver door handle lightly or hitting my truck with my duffle bag that I am carrying.

Yeah only the top button works on 96 to 98 models for sure, i think 99 to 02 the bottom button rolls the rear window up and down.
My 97 sr5 factor alarm does weird stuff too. I will lock it and then it will double beep and unlock in its own, really annoying. Sometimes it will lock and arm but not beep. Or it will just do a long loud hugh pitched beep that it makes as try to lock it. When it works it works great, love having the keyless entry been a long time since i had a car with it but man does it act odd sometimes.

Check the driver door window by the lock pull-tab. Should be a sticker there. Might be other ways to tell too.

I think the brains are under the drivers seat. Might try looking for a black box under there as it may have some type of identifying info on it...presuming of course that you have a factory alarm.

I feel you guys are over thinking the specific occurance listed in original post. Three beeps happens as a warning and also when your alarm shuts off after activated. Something set your alarm off when you were in your house. A bird could run into it, or a loud vibration or something. Have you tried setting off your alarm on purpose? To see what it does?
