1st post to this site, but I own a1998 toyota 4 runner limited..has 160,000 miles and just had the p0773 code come up. I took it to a tranmission shop and the guy told me it might not be the shift solenoid, it could be the torque converter and possible transmisson, but said there was no way to just check the solenoid, they would have to pretty much pull everything apart to find out for sure whats going wrong there. I can't believe they don't have a test to find out if it is the solenoid. The check engine light came on and I took it in, he first checked the codes them removed them, but they came back on after about 5 miles of driving. Does anyone know if there is a test to find out if the solenoid is the problem and who might do those kinds of checks, and approximate cost? Any help would be appreciated... the 4 runner runs find, and shifts fine right now.
