I have a 1998 4runner limited and had a question regarding a strange phenomenon where the doors unlock automatically. I was wondering if this phenomenon is occurring due to the factory alarm module, or some other sort of locking module device hidden in the car.
Here is what happens and how to repeat this event:
1 - Lock doors, close all doors, and exit vehicle
3 - Open drivers side door with a key
4 - Enter vehicle and shut all doors
5 - Start vehicle
6 - Open and shut drivers side door
What happens at this point is all the doors unlock. Does this happen on everyone's 3rd Gen 4runner?
The reason I am asking is because when I bought the car I found out that there was an aftermarket alarm system that was installed (then later removed) at some point and it looks like the factory alarm was removed at that time. I would like to know if there might be an aftermarket module that may be responsible for the unlocking doors hidden somewhere in the vehicle.
I have looked high and low for the factory alarm RS3000 (that according to the VIN and the window stickers, was installed at the factory)
Anyone???
