1998 Limited to keep or not? Repost from Newbie Thread

I recently inherited a 1998 Limited 4runner. It appears to be in dire need of a paint job. And there is some issue with the transmission slipping. Once I get down there again I will check the transmission fluid color.

Any idea what a paint job might cost for this vehicle? Based on what I have read the clear coat is failing so there would not be a way to restore the paint job.

There is little to no rust (one spot on the hood).

What are some other common issues with a 4runner of this generation? 170k miles

Check the tranny for fluid or pink sludge. A fluid and filter change is gonna be cheap and itll let you know if further tranny work is needed. A decent paintjob will cost no less than 2k.
