1998 Toyota 4Runner Exhaust - Brand New

Hey All,

I'm new to the forum, but I'm junking my 4-Runner because me and about 100 other Mechanics are completely lost one what is wrong with my baby.... It makes an un-godly noise and its something majorly internal, so I'm getting rid of her... The body is in perfect condition and interior is nice as well. Fairly new tires also... I'm going to be parting it, but here is why I am here....

I recently purchased a brand new exhaust, from the Catalitic convertor, almost all the way back... Just needs a elbow piece and a tail pipe. But the Cat and other pieces were fairly pricey. We hooked all of this up to the truck one time, and fired it up 1 time, and it did not change anything so I took it all of and am now selling it.

I am willing to give up this Brand new Cat / Muffler / and Straight Pice, and other piece. You will only have to purchase a elbow and a tail pipe. The muffler is not brand new, it is a few months old and some slight denting in the bottom as well as a slight crack, so i'm just throwing it in as extra, dont really care about it. I am in the Delaware area, and shippin is very expensive so I would rather meet with someone in Tri-State area. This includes New Jersey / Pennsylvania / Delaware, and maybe somewhere close as well. I am willing to give this stuff up for $400.00 when I paid close to $650 total and its never been used. You can give me an offer as well, but don't kill me...

Ok first of all, what kind of noise? Are you asking for help on that or just trying to sell your exhaust because you gave up on it?

Second, if you're trying to sell something youre kinda posting it in the wrong forum.

Third, what kind of exhaust is this, is it stock exhaust or some type of aftermarket piece?

I'm done with trying to fix it man... its useless anymore... the thing can fall off the face of the earth for all i care.. It's the stock exhaust... purchased all the parts from Local Auto-Zone... so w/e parts they basically had... but all the parts are identical to original ones i took off the truck except for the Muffler, its a little smaller it seems, but stilll fits like old muffler. I'm just trying to sell the parts...

If anyone is intrestested in the body and anything else, just make offers and I'll part the pieces.

i was not sure where to post to sell stuff, so i posted it for my year... Its the 4Wheel Drive, 1998 Toyota 4-Runner, 6 cylinder, Limited Edition.

I can't even explain the noise... I put all new exhuast ont he truck and it sounds like the truck has no exhaust or a HUGE HOLE in it... not only that. I can floor the truck, pedal to the floor, and it does not move.. i mean it moves but 0 to 60 in like an hour.... has no Power...

It brings up 11 different codes all refering to spark plugs etc... I changed all 3 coil packs... all new wires... all new spark plugs.. and stilll all readings are the same... Mass air flow sensor was checked and tested and its fine... vacum lines all are fine... no holes.. we pulled them off 1 by 1 to check.. nothing is clogged... Timing Belt is correct... we have no clue whats wrong....

No bubbles or water in oil.. no discolored smoke.. so its not head gasket... I've changed fuel and oil filter... etc... air filter... and still all same **** is occuring...

Check your injectors. Sounds like the problem I had and one of my injectors went.

I just purchased like 650 worth of parts, so if i sell the truck then I'm starting at like $1,500

I purchased new catalytic converter, new pipe that hooks from cat to muffler, and it is actually a brand new muffler, I forgot I purchased a new one cuz the other one I had cracked. It's brand new parts, been fired up 1 time, never fired up again... I also put 3 new coil packs which were like 90 bucks a piece.. new spark plug wires, and new plugs.... the rest of the truck is fine... just needs interior cleaned.. im 20 so its little messy... Also cd player dont work, but rest of radio / tape player for hooking tape player with that cable attached to plug into ipod.. I use that.... it has fairly new tires... It has new lower control arm, because the bushing blew out on the old one and the truck would shake, but does not do that any more... Truck seems like it may need new shocks, not yet, but soon... Body is clean, like 2 minor little dents, the 1 little dent has a small rust spot.... small dent on bumper as well....

I just want it gone at this point... I'm putting adds online to sell it... so if anyone wants to buy just the new exhuast, then let me know.. or if anyone wants whole truck make an offer... I'm not shipping it.. You must be in area where you can pick it up.. It will start up and run, but you can't drive anywhere because it has absolutely no power...

Yeah bro, I will do that either tomorrow or Friday, I have to borrow camera from work. I'll take engine pics, interior pics, but let me get a vacuum and vacuum her out. She also has a cracked front windshield, forgot to mention. It was also serviced a lot by my uncle when he owned it, he was original owner I believe. I have all the service receipts, until I got it and did not take as good of care, but did keep up with oil changes.

The Bad Things:
1: Truck makes an insane noise sounds like huge hole in muffler, but even after putting entire new Cat / Pipe / Muffler and hooking o2 sensors back up, it still makes the noise just a little more muffled. We are clueless to what it is.

2: Cosmetic Items, but nothing Major... Car has never been in an accident, Windshield is cracked from a rock hitting it a while back from a truck spitting it up. Someone backed into my front end, put a small send in bumper. There is a smaller then golf ball dent right below front hood, with a small rust spot in it, I'll take a picture of that... The paints clear coat is faded in areas and seems like its sand papered off, but actual paint is intact, and clean looking. I'll show you in pictures. I don't really know of anything else, but I will take pictures of it.

I'm asking for $1,500.oo just because the parts alone, the truck to me is definitely worth more if you fix w/e the engine problem is. I know its fixable, but I don't have the money to put into it, and I all ready purchased another vehicle, so I just want to get rid of it. I can't really go any lower then $1,500, after you see pics you can shoot me an offer. But I need to get it out of my drive way, so I'll get you pictures as soon as I can. To me the truck between body and etc, is worth $1,200 or more, and the parts I just purchased as I said are over $1,000, so $1,500 I'm asking because once you fix it, you could make some money off of it depending on the fix.

I really hope you like the looks of it because I want it gone asap. I have title / etc. Receipts for every time my uncle pretty much took it for service, he treated it well. 4 Wheel drive also does work btw, works good also, never had a problem, used it in snow during winter.
