1999 4runner, question on how to remove rear upper wheel well flare

I have a 1999 toyota 4runner Limited
I need to remove the rear passenger upper wheel well flare to try and repair a little rust on the body , I have pulled the inside trim off and can see some plastic posts that I assume hold the flare on. Also I see that it looks like they pop riveted the bottom of the flare onto the wheel well.
My question, besides having to drill out the pop rivet, how is the flare attached to the body. Do you just pull on the flare and the things pops off, is it bolted to those plastic posts. Just want to know what the process is so I do not break anything.

yeah sorry man another 1999 owner here, and i haven't done this, i know a few people have on here, so hopefully someone will chime in, welcome to the forum and hope we can help.
 
i have found a few threads that talk about this not sure if they will be of help or not,

send them a pm and ask them what the deal is, i keep finding threads where people have done it with no info on how the work was actually done.

There are four body clips that goes into a square/rectangular holes on the quarter panel which holds the flares in place. I would try and drill out the rivet and remove the 10mm bolt under the wheel well then gently lift up or pull the flare with caution starting on one end to undo the 4 remaining body clips.

You guys are amazing!!

Not only did you tell me how to do what I need to do, ( Thank you especially blcktpgsr), you also will make me look good in my wifes eyes. We both have toyota 4runners( 1995 and 1999) and my main brag point and reason I love the 4runners is if I need to do something to one of them I will automatically know how to fix the other one. Well!! I struck out last weekend trying to work on the rust around the wheel well. You have now made me look good again as I will with confidence look like I know what I am doing. It drives me crazy, when I find something wrong with our 4runners, I have to fix it.

yep no worries,

you seem like a guy whose been wrenching on their runners for a bit, you know you can repay us by hanging out on here and helping other with their problems , and who knows you might get inspired to start down the mod hole, lol
