1999 4WD Highlander edition

I am getting a 1999 Toyota 4Runner Highlander edition this week, which is bone stock, and been WELL taken care of. My question is, where can I find a 1" body lift kit for this thing? Or maybe a 1"-2" suspension lift. I don't want to affect any of the driveline (steering, cv's, trans linkage.... ). I just want to lift it a little more than it is now. Maybe to install the next size taller tires. Won't be doing "much" offroading, but I want to be able to use for that if needed. And I really want to keep a good ride.
I'm getting a steal on the ride (they didn't know what they had). And it's someone we've known for a while. They've taken super good care of it, babying it all the time.
Any thoughts on that lift kit?? I don't find too many when I google it for that model (1999). Thanks in advance!

Your Highlander has the "tall coils" so a body lift is a good choice IMO. Thats what I'm going to do myself as my 99 Limited has the tall springs also.
I'm going with the ToyTec :D
 
Thanks for the info! Yes, it does have the "tall" coils. I just want to bring it up a little more. I don't want to affect the driveline or anything. And I'd like to maybe put a taller set of tires on it. I just got it... for a steal.
 
Going +1 size on the tires will give you a nice little lift. That's all I've done, and with the 99 coils I am really happy with how it sits.

Might want to do the tires first then decide if you still want the BL as well.

Either way, congrats on the awesome find. Auto or 5 spd? Locking diff?

hey i was trying to get the 99 4wd "tall Coils" from my bud at the dealership but he is asking me for a vin #??? does it affect anything

Just give him these part numbers:

* Front Passenger Side Spring - Blue / Yellow (48131-35400)
* Front Driver Side Spring - Blue / Pink (48131 - 35350)
* Both Rear Springs - Yellow / Red (48231 - 35210)
 
I have some 881 front coils that will give you 2.5 inch front lift for sale for $100 in the for sale section. Practically new. Only used 9 months then went with a 3 inch Heavy duty coil instead.

It is an Auto, with locking diff. Some friends of ours had it since it was brand new in 1999. They have baby'd it changing the oil every 3,000 and changed the timing belt at 80,000 and 160,000. Only been in 4wd twice. The only thing wrong is.... the clock don't work. lol But it has 200,120 miles, and is solid black. It has a 3 disc changer. It has the 3.4V6. It looks GREAT as they have kept it in a garage all the time. I looked it up on KBB and it showed like $6,100 or so. I gave $4,000. It will be for my daughter (16 now), but you know how it is.... I will be "customizing" it.
I don't want to "jack it" up in the air... just make it stand a little higher, and be able to put the next size tires under it. I'm gonna do the ol' "cat-back" and cold air. And am very interested in that TRD supercharger!
I just want it to "ride nice". I don't want a bucking bull ride. And I want it to have plenty of power. Oh, and I'll probably do the front brake Tundra upgrade right off. May look into getting some aftermarket rims/tires. We'll be driving it on the highway mostly, but with a little bit of "playing offroad". ;-)
I'm just excited about it, and about doing all the mods! I think I'll go with a 1" body lift to start. Then after all my mods (cold air/exhaust/brakes...ect.) I'll probably put a nice set of wheels on it.
Oh, quick ??.... will I need a bumper relocation kit with a 1" body lift??

You could get away without getting one, but the gap between your grill / lights and the bumper will be bigger than stock. If you want it to look good, I would get the bumper relocation brackets. Then again, if you are handy at all, you could just drill two holes in each bracket that are 1 inch higher than stock, and you would be good to go!
 
I have a feeling your daughter will never get that truck out of your hands. Especially if you supercharge it. :roadkill:


She'd rather have a New Beetle or Mini Cooper anyway.

I have seen the rears posted as Green/Red as well (same number). I have them on my truck from the factory, and the truth is the color looks like a yellowish green, or maybe a green fading to yellow. Has anybody seen a new one, and would like to confirm which it is?

There's not enough material to drill any holes - you need to fabricate or buy the relocation brackets. I just cut some 3x4" 1/8" steel plate, drilled 4 holes (2 for bolts into the existing bracket, then 2 above for new location with nuts welded onto the backside). I also had to grind off the stock anti-bumper drop tooth (for lack of a better term).
They were in the way of where the new nuts welded onto the relocation plate need to be. A picture would be good about right now, but I didn't bother...

lol!! I think you are correct there!:cry2: I'm too excited about "customizing" this thing to let her drive it. lol I have a Honda Civic that I drive to work. She hates a small car. We got her a Ford Focus, and she won't drive it. My wife has an Expedition, and my little girl "loves" to drive that. And my wife says she feels "safer" if she (my daughter) drives an SUV.
I'm just the type to "trick out" whatever it is that I have. And the 4Runners... I love the looks and functionality of it. My dad owns a paint/body shop, so I grew up "fixing things up".
The only problem I'm going to have while trying to "drive" this thing when she isn't.... is that she is getting some custom "Hello Kitty" seat covers for it!! :cry2: I'll have to bring a towel with me to cover them up. lol
But the supercharger.... Yes!... I'm seriously looking into that one. :guitar2: I want to do the cat-back/cold air first.
I would like to know if anyone has made the hood scoop "functional"?? I would like to force some cold air into the intake somehow using it. Any suggestions/pics??

First off, congrats on the sweet deal! Get some pics up ASAP. As an FYI, it's a good idea to put your rig into 4wd about once a month. Keeps things from seizing up.

I have to admit that I cringed when I read that. It honestly scares me when I see kids driving in big cars that have very little driving experience. There's enough soccer moms out there driving big SUV's that shouldn't be. I think that they should change the licensing rules so that you can only drive a car as big as the one that you take the test in. If you can parallel park that beast in a test, then it's all yours to drive on the roads.

And she "won't" drive the Focus? My parents gave me $500 (which I thought was extremely generous of them) as a starting point and said I could add as much of my own money as I wanted. I felt lucky just to have four wheels and an engine. At 16 you don't get to make demands like that. At least that's my opinion.

same situation, except my parents gave me $1000. I had to tutor kids asses off to make enough money in one summer to buy my 97 honda prelude :)

She took her test, and has been driving in the Expedition. The Focus is a 1999 with 286,000 miles on it. It might be worth $500... maybe.

She has no problem with the Focus. She just feels safer, and is more familiar with a larger SUV. The wife thinks she is "safer" in the Toyota too. Think about if she gets in a wreck in the Focus... or the Toyota. Which would be better for her?? My dad gave us the Focus. We are giving it back tomorrow.

She never demanded anything, or said she wouldn't drive the Focus. She just isn't comfortable in it, and it's a little wore out. I just figured we got such a good deal on the Toyota.... might as well let someone drive it! I have to drive the Civic to work. I put 180 miles on it a day. I get 35-36mpg in it. It wouldn't make sense to drive the 4Runner everyday for me.

And the daughter doesn't drive that much as it is. She doesn't drive to school everyday, she rides the bus. We just got the good deal, and figured "hey, let Kelli drive it".

I got a 1986 Ford pickup with 198,000 miles on it when I was 15 (we got our licenses at 15 then). Again... my dad has a paint/body shop, so he got it in a trade, and we fixed it up. It had been wrecked.

I'll try to get some pics this evening. I work from daylight till dark 6 days a week, so it's kinda hard.

But she just doesn't like driving at all. We have to make her drive when she comes with us somewhere. She never said "I'm not driving that thing". She'd just rather stay home than to drive the Focus. I don't blame her... it's a bit wore out. Even with the Yoda, she don't like driving anywhere, especially by herself. She would drive the Focus to her grandmaws some times. Matter of fact, she hasn't driven the 4Runner yet. I just got the 4Runner using the excuse "this can be Kelli's car"... and "it's much safer than the Focus". But deep down... it is ME that want's the toyota. If I could... I'd drive it everyday myself.
