It was great while it lasted but let this be a warning not to let this go. New transmission or tranny overhaul is more than it's worth. Rust on the frame near the muffler.

Is there any market for dead 4runners that need a transmission? It's about to go to the scrap yard.

Are you kidding? A new trans has to be less than 2k, that's well under what the truck is worth unless you've let the entire thing go to shit.

Yes, there's a market for used 4Runners with failed transmissions. Even if the rest of the truck is crap you can find somebody looking for a 3.4 to swap into his earlier truck. Don't scrap it.

New Trans was quoted at almost 2500. The rest of it isn't in bad shape for a 1999, There's rust through on the rear bumper corners and on the frame near the muffler. Typical paint chips and scratches from a 15 year old Toyo. Interior's fine and all the buttons work except for the clock.

If you weren't in Cincinnati I'd buy that thing in a heartbeat (and probably for more than the tranny)! Don't let it go to the scrap yard, it's worth the tranny, and its probably still worth it if you don't find a better deal. But still no need to go with the first price you get!

Just do a little research... I've seen tranny's, on CL, as low as $450... if you can't do the swap yourself it will cost a bit more but significantly less than the value of the 4Runner!

Your nutz! You can get a Marlin transmission for $1800, and that includes shipping both ways. Get a new quote or call Marlin. I had frame rust and fixed it with a couple hours of work on a Saturday. You ship yours back and get a core refund. I had the same thing happen about 4 months ago, but my transmission is holding up for now.

I can let it go for 400.00 if that helps? I can get trans out to lancaster Ohio for pickup in a few weeks ? I just rebuilt a wrecked celica for a friend out there's 16 year old daughter and it's being shipped out there soon could thro it in the back of car? Let me know

If your frame is rotting it may not be worth putting another transmission into.

Thanks for the interest guys, but I sold it to a guy locally who's going to breathe some life back into it. Considering the 190k on the engine and it's age, it wasn't going to be worth paying someone to work on it. It's a perfect project for someone who can do their own work.
