1999 Canadian 4 Runner SR5

Hey guys so I've been mainly trolling here for the last 6 months just trying to sponge as much awesome information as I can. I bought my 1999 4 Runner with right under 130,000 on it. It originally was a Canadian car, but was imported here in about 2001. Being a Canadian car the headlights are wired on for safety per Canadian law. Anyhow, I was resetting the EFI map per the instructions here, and noticed the relay for the fog lights is missing. Before I noticed that I saw that there was wiring with a plug end on it hanging high under the driver side wheel well. Realizing that I went back and looked at that wire and its coming off of the head light wire harness. So putting two and two together I realized that this thing must be wired for fog lights. Which got me excited because I have my ARB bumper arriving in a couple of days, and I will most likely mount some type of lights, or light bar. All that being said do the Canadians use one of the conductors off of the wiring for the fog lights to allow for the always on headlights? If not I would like to wire up the fog light wires to a switch. What's the best way of doing that? Anything I'm missing?

That does look like a foglight connector, but the factory wiring is pretty flimsy for any real light wattage. its usually best to wire up your own relay and wiring if you have more than 30-40 watts.

Do you mean Daytime Running Lights? Don't all cars come with those these days?

I realize they became mandatory in Canada way before the States (sometime around 1990-1991 for Canada), but have they not also been mandatory in the US for quite some time now? Possibly even as far back as 1999?

Anywho, I'm slightly off topic.. I just got a chuckle at you referring to DRL's as "always on headlights".

Not all regions require DRLs. I remember driving in a new canadian car in the states when they first came out. People were going out of their way to let us know our lights were on! Careful! Don't be too safe!

Similar story here. My dad had bought a brand new 1991 Cavalier Z24 (which came equipped with DRL's) and took it on a Family RoadTrip to Walt Disney World in 1992.

It took a good while for my dad to clue in that people were flashing their high beams at him in broad day light to let him know that his headlights were on, but up to that point he kept thinking motorists were warning him of speedtraps up ahead so he kept slowing down. lol.
