1999 Good replacement muffler?

I just replaced my whole exhaust excluding the crossover pipe and manifolds. I used the eBay/amazon northern exhaust and so far really like it, I think it was something like $135 for the muffler and tail pipe section

It’s not very loud though, almost completely silent. I previously had a thrush turbo muffler and it was junk, something came loose inside it within a few days and it rattled constantly

I'll second that. The Northeastern Exhaust stuff is very nice.

i bought the SS gibson catback from Burtman Ind( [MENTION=9]Jason B[/MENTION] ) and love it. i dont have a great comparison as my stock exhaust was riddled with holes long before i bought the 4R but its probably just a touch louder than stock. Its really only noticable when the windows are down and it doesnt drone at all. I'm sure if i bounced it off the rev limiter it'd sound like complete trash but it rarely sees over 3k rpms and so far im very happy with the exhaust.

Which Borla exhaust do you have?

I actually currently have stock exhaust piping with a Borla 19" ProXS muffler welded in. I just wanted to get rid of the stock baffled muffler, it's not so good with flow rates. However now I've outgrown the Toyota crush bent piping and going to go either 2.75" or straight 3" mandrel bent piping once I get the funds for it. Too much power is addicting.

Muffler and tail pipe

Going through this right now. Bad flanges between muffler and tail pipe.

Sounds like the Walker is made as poorly as all the other shit out there since a part will only be as good as it's weakest link (which in this case will be what sound like thin, mild steel flanges). I haven't been able to find a reasonably priced tailpipe out of SS either.

So, I guess it wont' matter what I get?

Just hope for 5 years out of it and replace again??

That might be a little like saying "Rolls Royce, Isuzu and Kia are decent..." Borla really isn't in the same ballpark I don't think, in terms of quality, cost and probably sound. Have you priced them? Is cost an issue?
