my 99 4runner is having problems. when i first start it up it isn't acting right. before the engine warms up, i have almost no power at all. the rpm's will rise but i can barely get over 20 mph. there is not throttle response, but once the car warms up everything is fine. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

Could be many reasons... How many miles do you have on your truck? Last time you did plugs and wires, a simple oil change, etc. Maybe check your throttle body, IAC area. Any engine doesn't act right when it's cold, even though I know usually everyone can get over 20mph.

i was thinking plugs and wires also. i had it looked at a few months back, and the mechanic said they were fine. if it keeps going i will get it looked at again. thanks for the help

Clean your MAF, replace gas filter if you haven't done so. Also check the temp sensor, the one close to the timing belt cover. It should be responsible to let know the computer when the engine is cold or hot so it can adjust the fuel volume going into the cylinders.
