1gr-fe swap?

ok so my folks have a 05 tacoma and wow what a engine
i want to know if anyone has heard of this swap or knows someone who has done it i realize the speedo is digital and the tranny is computer controlled but man i think it would be sweet.

Anything is possible with time and money. It would probably be a total conversion ie. engine, trans, t-case. Then it is probably drivers side drop so that means new axle. '05 could have CAN-BUS wiring making that a challenge all in itself. Actually fabbing it in should be fairly easy though.

its not something most of us would follow but hey its cool to see. maybe someday when that engine comes down in price we can all trade in our chevy engines for 4.0 1g engines!
 
hey i noticed you pulled it from a yard near seattle, im down in tacoma. Question, does that yard have any 3.4L yielding vehicles? i'd like to steal one for a cheaper price. PM me or whatever, good luck on the swap too! Lots of pictures!!

It didn't actually cost that much. I could have bought a whole donor truck for $5k, but we were looking for a 2wd manual donor...less wiring and such.
 
The more and more I think about it, the more I want to copy your swap! It will be one of the last things I do on my runner because there isn't anything wrong with my current setup. But I am not very pleased with the power of my motor. I step on the gas and it goes but it just doesn't go with any pep. I was originally set on the 7MGT but I can get equal power with the 1GR and not have to worry about a turbo, a much newer engine design and a more unique swap. Plus, having a 6sp manual would be pretty cool!

Stoffregen M-sport: Any ideas of the total cost in your swap? I'm probably thinking something along the lines between 3-4k or am I off by a couple grand? I will do everything myself so there won't be any labor charges other than beer to get help from friends when needed.

You said something a while back about setting up a swap kit for retail, do you have any plans to pursue that?

Thanks. I think it came out pretty clean.

Considering how much we had to change, like the intake manifold and the catalytic converters, there is a very low probability of making any kit. If it were able to pass emissions testing, that would be a different story. So many of my potential customers care about passing smog testing that it wouldn't make sense. Now if 25 people came to me and said "I want a kit" it might change my mind.

The cats were pointed right at the frame rails so it made sense to cut them off and move them downstream.




And the intake wouldn't even come close to fitting under the hood so we had to make a custom intake.
