1st Gen Electrical Issue

Stereo head unit won't turn on since I bought it, horn doesn't work either, may be unrelated. It had an amp when I got it, but two of the wires in back which went to a sub appeared to have melted together. I figured it shorted and wasn't really concerned.

The runner has trouble starting if she sits for too long, so I think she has a short somewhere that is draining the battery. The amp is now out and all associated wiring has been cleaned up, and maybe this was the problem.

Anyway, what fuse controls the head unit? I've checked the ones by the battery and driver's footwell. Just trying to pinpoint these problems.

The radio uses the Haz-Horn fuse, located in engine bay fuse box.

I had the same issue on my '86 and replaced the horn itself to no avail (Should have tested the wires electrically >_<). Turns out it was the contact ring. In the instructions, OP mentions making a shim to raise the ring a bit. DO THAT. I tried to skip that step and didn't work!

As for the head unit, check to make sure no wires have popped out of the back of it. My head unit died out too and it turns out the main yellow power wire was almost completely severed at the crimp on the connector probably from getting jostled around.

Define "sits for too long". Mine drains pretty quick. If I dont start it within 2 weeks its 95% likely that its not going to start without a jump.
