1st gen or a 97?

I have a few bucks since I sold my 00 Tacoma. I have the option of buying 89 Toyota 4 Runner *REDUCED*. Or a 97 limited 3.4 v6 from a used car salesman ( drove fine, no noises, 224,000 miles. I know this is vague and will open up a cans of worms but which of the two would be a better investment overall? I like the look of the old ones because I can go through brush and scratch it all up. Thanks guys, Chris

1st Generation Model, 3.0 V6 EFI with 5 speed maual and a new starter. Has a rebuilt motor with only 35,000 miles. Has new tires, which are 10.50 x 31 and paid 600.00 for them. Also has a new starter, new water pump, new hydralic trans, and new battery. It has 2 small rust spots, but run great. Needs some TLC.

Ok, here's my take on it FWIW.
The owner has dumped a lot of money into it and is tired of doing so.
See if you can geyt it for maybe $1500 and be ready to put some more into it.
You could end up with a nice truck.
Check the frame closely for rust, it can be a big problem on these in some areas (esp if they salt the roads in the winter).
Also see how the trans is and use the 4wd in hi and lo range.

They're both good trucks. I have one of each, and like them both. If you've got a set of wrenches and are willing to get dirty, you'll get more bang for your buck with the 1st gen. The 3rg gen is going to have a better ride and make better freeway speeds. If it's a daily driver that sees trails I'd go with the 3rd gen. If it's going to be a toy, go with the 1st gen and don't look back.

Exactly what I was going to say, any daily driving my preference would be the 3rd Gen.

Thanks guys, I'll be going round trip 40 miles a lot to the shop. But when the weather allows I go out ratting around on my Z1900 so I can pick on Hardley's and sportbikes.:hunter:
