My kill switch is wired to the fuel pump...on a factory switch that has been re-routed, and bypassed just for that. The bad guy would have to know that, or get really lucky...because the switch is stock on the surface, ans has nothing to do with driving the beast. I'll confess...I've sat there a few times wondering why the hell she won't start...only to remember it's "that" switch...that I knew was there all along.

I'm not too worried about my 4runner, since it doesn't have a diesel engine and 42" tires no one in north Florida want it... Seriously though if it's that much of a problem in your area, most nice alarms have a starter or fuel system kill with a back up battery. Add a nice 2-way remote and you're good to go.

not worth wiring up the alarm starter kill. it so easy to be by passed and not worth it. its always wired up in the same spot and if they know you have an alarm, they usually go straight for it. i do it for the pager system and keyless entry. the hidden switches are the really immobilizers

Mine also looks like a gardener's truck so that's a theft deterrent by itself.

You don't need a fancy alarm. That is simply An ignition kill-switch with a remote control. I would not trust others complicating, or possibly butchering the simple wiring of a classic with fancy remotes (seen how many wiring complaints on the forum?). Besides, thieves have already figured those out.

I have kill-switches for three separate systems (that's more than what a $500 alarm system has), without a need for a remote. When parked in a less desirable area, all 3 are enabled.

Of course, some thieves bring a flat-bed truck to just haul vehicles away

i spent $100 for a pager system and wired it in myself the way i like. it doesnt butcher any wiring since its all t tap in. like have said before the pager system and keyless entry was what i was after. 2 mile range and i rather run out and see if someone is messing with trying to find the alarm key switch (which there isnt one) because i have too many other fail safes lol
a club on top of that and one little surprise inside the cab if they decide to go looking to by pass any wiring lol

upset I have to add to this my 85 4runner was stolen a couple weeks ago in south san jose
My security was the red steering wheel lock thought this would be enough
they cut my steering wheel with bolt cutters
I ended up finding it down the street
they just ripped up the glove box and thats it nothing stolen
my 4runner was running very rough at the time so i think thats the only reason it was left
i have a 3000$ dollar rig maybe.
it banged up/dirtiest car on the block,no radio, cracked windsheild
but it was still targeted

because its easy to part out or make it a trail rig only.
should get an alarm to alert you and a secondary kill switch (s)
heck if you dont drive it often, remove the battery or ignition coil

TI just leave mine on jackstands with the drive shaft(s) disconnected.......

HIt's not really a theft deturant it's just in repair mode and it's been too cold and now rainy to work on it.....so it sits kinda like my celica which is also in pieces waiting for re-assembly.



But hey it works and none has touched either vehicle. They have rearranged the stuff inside the t4r but never take anything in the past.

Whether for rock crawling, parts or for resale on the minty ones----these 1st gens are targeted....just take the simple measure described here and find a place to hide a fuel cut-off switch, and let the thief crank her till the cops show up.
