1st gen pickup

I've got a 86 pickup. tired 22r in it. I'm thinking of trying to buy a wrecked tachoma with 4.0 running gears and basically putting my 1st gen body on the frame and running gears. I realize it would be a lot of mods but I think it would be less than actually trying to mod everything? My pickup is ext cab short bed. I've also got an 89 runner lifted and phase 2 head from 22repreformance.com. I've also got a 2nd gen runner with the POS 3.0. Any comments?

I've got the 22re in my 86 4runner and love it. Lotsa power, NO. Bulletproof, YES.
Anything can be done if you have the time & $$$$$$$$$$$.

Let me clarify - Are you thinking it'll be less work to lift the body of the '86 pickup off the existing chassis and move it to the rolling chassis/drive train of a newer taco?

If so, all this just because the engine is old on the '86?

I think you'd be opening a huge can if you swapped bodies. The simpler and more cost effective route would be replace existing driveline -- and save you tons of time/frustration.
