6th Gens Dent easily ?

I just picked up my 6th Gen TRD ORP on Thursday, drove it to work friday, errands on Saturday, and spent 4-5 hours detailing it today.

I was just outside looking it over and I noticed a dent in the right front, where that " seam " is that runs down the center. I have absolutely no clue where the heck that came from and am thinking that I possibly put it there when I was leaning over waxing/buffing the hood while standing on a work platform.

I'm ~215 pounds, and I know I wasn't leaning over with all my body weight resting on it, and thinking it through just now I am not even certain that I caused it but I can't think of how else it got there since I didn't notice it until now. I was able to pop it back out most of the way by gently banging on it from the other side but its not perfect, and probably never will be..

Since its going to be a daily driver for my 40 mile commute stuff like that is bound to happen but Im pretty irritated its happened already.

I've owned 2 other 4 runners and a tacoma, and I've never ran into an issue where body weight put a dent in them as a result of leaning on them.

Its nuts.

The 6th gen is built pretty cheap and flimsy. Extremely thin sheetmetal to cut costs, cheap materials and cost-cutting throughout, no skidplates on some models, plastic skidplates on the TRD OR and ORP models, only getting real skidplates on the Pro or Trailhunter models. Flimsy Hoods that flutter in the breeze driving down the road. Fender flares that were designed so minimally they don't fit tight to the body, leaving gaps.

As a long time Toyota fan, and having worked for a Toyota dealer as a Master Tech back in the day, I really wanted to like the 6th gen, but I am just very disappointed.

Yes, sorry to say I do believe you inadvertently dented your 4Runner by gently leaning on it.

Yes, they are cutting corners with most of their vehicles, penny pinching everywhere they can to save a few bucks, while also raising their prices. So consumers are getting less for more.

I don't agree. While the majority "feel" that the 5th gen is far superior to the new one, there really isn't any real evidence of that - just the 'feeling' of the group that owns the gen 5.

These same issues were brought up with 5th gens back in 2009. Not really shocking, they find ways to cut costs all the time. Example, 99+ 3rd Gens use a painted airbag cover. Cheaper to mold a black cover and paint it grey or tan. 4th gen 4Runners have dash cracking issues that resulted in a recall - not an issue with the 3rd gen and then did away with the soft touch dash material for the 5th gen.

Right. The old model is always better.

What IS generally true is that the first year of a new model is often a bit more problematic, but that isn't normally the case with Toyota.

Can we really consider a 2025 4Runner the first year?

Tacoma came out at least a year before, and they share so many parts, the 4Runner is pretty much a Tacoma with a hoodie.

Don't forget the mandated, OCD level attention to every 0.1MPG.

It means manufactures are obliged to shave every oz they can from a model to meet these stupid requirements.

(I call them stupid because it means more parts that don't last as long, good for the fake GDP number though!)

My 5th Gen has the worst paint of any vehicle Ive owned. Im a Boomer for reference. Toyotas having low budget paint is nothing new.

This. They're milking the 4runner. New one is pure trash. Saw one parked today. Already looked incredibly dirty just from driving around NYC. Nicks and scratches galore.
