Hate to say it but I no longer have this thing. It was my first car and I loved it. 1987 DLX. Drove it during high-school and until it started costing too much for me to keep turning around and fixing every week.
Wasn't the prettiest thing (at least to some people) yet everyone always loved it, because 4runner! Here's a few pics from a day of playin' in the mud to snow shenanigans with a miata to the last one I took before she was taken off

Yeah that's definitely aftermarket. I've seen posts on people installing them for safety reasons. Bad experiences with getting rear ended is enough reason for some to install em.

My brother has a twin of your truck. Only differences that I can see is the there were smitty built bumpers on his. He's actually looking to 3rz swap his very soon.
Either way super clean rig man that thing is beautiful!

Personally?.... I'd ditch it. If it's really a must, there are much cleaner ways to integrate a 3rd brake light than that monstrosity (IMO).

So I didn't know where else to post this being new to the forum and a pretty new 4runner owner. This is my black beauty. Got her in Oakland roughly a month ago, and am just starting to figure out that the guy I bought her from didn't use her at all. Obviously I wanted to do some cosmetic things, bigger front bumper, new suspension/lift, but now just recently found out after getting stuck on this side of the road that I most likely need a new head gasket or more. Last week I replaced my brake booster and master cylinder, thought she was a ok. Not the case. Nostalgic rig for me, my dad had a bunch of 1st gen 4runners we'd take 4-wheeling, so I'm stoked to have this. Definitely going to get my hands all over it though, would appreciate any help of advice. Thanks

Hi everyone! So I'm new on here. I'm thinking about getting this and wondering your thoughts. Here is the CL add. What would you pay asking $6,000.
1988 Toyota 4Runner SR5, v-6, automatic, four wheel drive. 97,600 miles and going up, as I do drive it. Runs, drives, and shifts good. I am third owner.
New rear springs, u-bolts and rear shocks last year.
June 2016 NEW: (MOOG PARTS) inner and outer tie rod ends and adjusting sleeves, pitman arm, idler arm and upper ball joints. Front end alignment done also.
Timing belt and water pump kit and harmonic balancer just done. Inspection was just done.
Frame is good. Body has rust on rear quarter panels, small area on rocker panels and inside tail gate. I have new front fenders in the box that go with it. Doors are good.
Interior is clean for the most part. Dash is cracked in typical Toyota spot. Arm rest is worn.
Tires are better than 80%. After market fog lights. I have described this the best I can.

Just got repainted factory gray, she's finally looking better. New front bumper, new clear markers, new clear blinkers, new antenna, OEM Decals from James Dean, new chrome fender trim (CL find) and new alternator (died at paint shop). Speaking of paint shop in N.FLA, no names but very crappy workmanship ... I think Maaco might have done better. However happy to see 29 year old factory paint gone but painting over duct tape residue is unacceptable.

Yep, went with OME 2" lift but decided to try the torsion bar versus BJ spacers at first. My mistake... couldn't level out with new rear leafs (I even took a leaf out of that pack), opened the wallet back up and got 1.5" BJ lift, replaced both Upper & Lower ball joints while I was doing that then backed off the torsion bars some to get it level. Sooner or later I'll that leaf back.
