1st Oil Change

I think that break-in oil is only meant to last that long, and no longer. If this is true, I would definitely suggest an early change.

Not according to Acura and Toyota, both suggust 1st oil change at 5000 mile, in fact Acura dealer will not change your oil b 4 that.

For the 5,000 mile oil change if you want to switch to Synthetic like Mobil1, do you have to do it yourself, or can the dealer put Synthetic in for you?

You can have the dealer switch to synthetic at your request. Or you can bring your own synthetic and have them use it during the oil change. It's your choice. However there have been stories where they continued to use regular oil on the fill and pocketing your synthetic.

For an oil change, you're better off doing it yourself than bothering with the dealer or an oil change joint, unless you live in an apartment or community that prohibits it.

Please do the oil change urself. If you can't, you might as well stop using motor vehicles. It's the easiest thing to do, and the best way to save money.

Why would a dealership pocket something that costs 7 or 8 bucks??

Not so much the dealership, but the grease monkey doing the work. It's about $25-30 in oil. It's been posted around here before where the member found his case of synthetic under the shop bench at the dealer. Shouldn't be there, if there wasn't any greedy intentions.

Can't speak for someone with shady intentions, but it's for the same reason why some will remove metal or chrome air caps off your wheels. Metal or chrome caps are like what, $1 a piece?
