1st oil change

Ok, I promised I would take care of the 4-runner. I have read all the maintenance post on oil and changing it. So lets see I change it at 2K, then again at 5K then every 5K after that because my little blue book tells me to. I should use a good quality oil filter maybe a Mobil M1-209 and synthetic oil. (Mobil or Amsoil) Did I get the important stuff.
P.S. I am ready I hit 2100 miles today.

I meant to do my first change at 3500, but it ended up happening more around 4100.

Your plan seems about right, that should do the truck well.

I posted about doing an oil change a while back, some useful information in that thread as well. Search for it, or its probably still on the first page or so in the maintnence board.

I would say the Toyota OEM filters would be as good as the mobile and also if you are getting Amsoil it may take some time depending if you are signed up yet.

Larry I got my time line mostly from your post dated 5-2-04.
Toybox thanks for enlightenment on the Amsoil. My husband gave me the "box top" from Mobil1 synthetic and asked that I please try it and also said" look they have a web site". He asked please so I will do it.
Vortec4800 I looked, but did not search and did not see it. I will try again.
Any way thanks for all the imput.
I use to chang the oil in my 1976 ford pinto wagon a long, long, long, time ago. Then there was this guy named Matt. Now Matt thinks I need to expand my knowledge base. So expand I shall!

The best thing you can do is "do it your self" so you have already expanded.

Go with the Toyota oil filters they are among the best.
Most synthetic oils are good.

Mikes4Runner, I have driven a few things in between the pinto and 4-runner:
80 3/4 2w chevy p/up
89 toyota corrolla 4dr 5speed (I Liked this car)
93 Dodge cummins dually (traded my 1st toyota for this)
P.S. got my driver license on a 73 3/4 Chevy Suburban w/a 454

But I always wanted a 4w 4-Runner.

OK, another question about the 1st oil change. My dealer sent me a letter saying it's been 3 months and I should change it...Do you'll still follow that 3 month 3k miles rule? I only have 1100 miles right now. Just curious on how you'll approach it...

Jay if you are going by time it is 6 months.
