1st Post: 2009 V8 4th Gen or GX

[Lexus LX]

Hello guys, first post on here.

My son has always had a thing for 4th generation 4Runners. My first car was a 4Runner so I suppose it runs in the blood. I can't decide if I should get him a 2009 V8 Limited or GX470/GX460.

I don't care for the power plant in the 5th gen.

Anyone in a similar predicament?

If I was an 18 year old I wouldn't want to be seen driving a Lexus. I'd rather have the 4Runner with some nice mods. Maybe that's just me.

This guy owns a Mercedes and a BMW. Do you think Lexus repair costs scare him? I think not. I don't think it'd be a bad idea for him to contribute to the cost of his car - it builds character and teaches the value of money. But if you've already set the precedent by buying the daughter an M6 it'll be hard to enforce.

Yes it sounds like it's not about money but which one would be better and I say go with the 2009 V8 Limited.

Going by the cars in your family, get the Lexus or your son's car will stick out like a sore thumb.

Make sure you also pay for the insurance and all maintenance too. :lmao:

Just searched Autotrader.com and there are only 2 available in the entire country.

Please don't. One more spoiled brat is not what me need. A kids car should be a reliable, safe, not cool car. When they complain, you should say "Want better? Want something better than what was given for free? Work for it".

Free things should never be better than that which a person can aquire through work. If they are, it usually creates a spoiled, entitled brat who wakes up one day in their mid-30's wondering where it went wrong.....

I'm a judgy ******* who went to private school on a scholarship that saw all his rich daddy friends drive expensive cars to school, in high school. I watched those kids grow up from spoiled to bratty to entitled and occasional see them when I travel home, when they serve me at a bar after dropping out of "art school" because it was too hard.

Nah.. Just kidding. In the words of the pompous 17th century Brits "You correct yourself sir, I was judging not your family in the least". I was simply commenting that kids don't need expensive ass cars easily handed to them... tends to turn them into insufferable adults.

But hey. I'm sure a Porsche would cure that, right? Owning a Porsche at 17 always leads to well adjusted kids, right?

i agree and your question is valid regardless of who the driver is.

my gf and i are kind of in the same position. she really likes my 06 SR5 but would like leather so i suggested either the 4Runner limited or the lexus. honestly i'd prefer the 4runner because the V8 is overkill to me and i use the sliding rear window any time it's decent out. i think you get a lot more for your money with the 4runner, even the 04/05ish high mileage lexus' are going for $20k+

Amen. He is asking which would be a better car for his son, not to be judged for buying his son a nice car. Leave the judgment aside... no matter how much you wish you were his son.

Personally I like both vehicles. I bought a 4runner because I could afford it and it has not disappointed. I don't think you can go wrong with either one, as they are both mechanically very nice vehicles. Let your son decide which he likes best.
