Hello all,

Recently sold my Acura Legend and upgraded to a Limited 99 T4R. Love it.

First problem occured today, though, and I've searched around the forum a bit looking for others with similar past probs. This seems to be a common issue:

Accelerating is fine, decelerating is fine, braking is fine, but for some reason when I am around 1-5 MPH I'm getting a pretty intense shake of the whole truck. At 0 MPH its not bad and once I hit 10 MPH its no prob either, but when I'm coming to a stop at stop lights/signs its very shaky. Check Engine Light came on about an hour later as the problem continued.

I bought the car a month and a half ago and its been smooth sailings. I am due for an oil change & air filter, so those will be done tomorrow. Any other ideas on steps to take after these?

My thoughts are fuel or air intake problems based on the feel, but I'm thrown off that it only happens from 1-5 MPH.

after oil/air filter change I'll prob try:
1) spark plugs + cables
2) Fuel filter/pump
3) air intake

please point me to any past occurances to this problem, willing to do all the reading I can as this seems to be a common/difficult issue on the Forum.

Thanks all

Pull the CEL code after your overdue oil and filter change, and report back before doing anything else.
On my previous runner, i tore the inner wires of the spark plug wire on accident, while changing the plugs. This caused severe loss of power, and as you can imagine, some misfiring at ANY rpm. IMO, if it were an issue with spark, you would feel it always.

But like i said, pull that code, and report back.

Went to AutoZone:

Misfire detected on cylinder #4. "P0304"

probable cause
1) ignition system fault-spark plugs, ignition wires, coil.
2) Vacuum leak
3) Injector fault
4) high or low fuel pressure

So I guess I'll start with the spark plugs/wires. Any advice on which ones to select? Autozone wanted $37 for the wires and 3.50 for the NGK Copper plugs. This will be my first tune up since purchasing, so I'm not sure if Duralast wires+ NGK copper plugs are the way to go.

Will say I need to drive from Tucson to Phoenix today, so would rather pick up locally then order online.

Thanks.

Yesterday it would pick its moments, but on the drive to Autozone it seemed to be driving heavy at all RPMs. Acts its worst around idle, though.

Check your plug on cylinder 4, and replace your wires. How many miles do you have on your runner? and did the PO state if they happened to ever be replaced?

Replaced plug 4 and the shaking went away. However the CEL is still on, hoping it will go away after driving a few miles?

Thanks

Good news! Lets hope it stays that way.
By any chance, do you still have that crappy plug? Try and check the gapping, maybe it was wayyyy of or the electrode was no longer there lol.

Try and have someone reset your CEL, and drive a day or two, that will be the real test.

Kind of weird: I looked through the records (last owner kept good records of all work done) and noticed that spark plug 4 had been changed just this past October. In the notes it was for the same reason "check engine light on/Sputtering." Is there a possibility that the spark plug wire (or anything else for that matter) is causing the #4 plug to die faster than the others?

CEL light went off today, and the drive to + from Phoenix went perfectly. Driving smoother after the spark plug upgrade. *Also noticed that 1 dollar copper spark plugs were used by previous mechanic, maybe another reason #4 went out so soon.

Anyways easy fix. :thanks:
