Why does Toyota not tweak this puppy for some extra oomph and shove it in the Tundra?

I WISH Toyota would make a 1 Ton Diesel Tundra. I think that would sell well and be a very successful platform in the US market.

That's imperial. Try 20 and 23 US MPG.

But still, that's awesome. And that's in a 6000 pound 200-series, too. Imagining what that could do flinging my little 4Runner down the road is making me pop wood.

Either way, 20+ mpg would be really cool with that much power. I have always wondered why Toyota doesn't bring any of their diesel platforms to the us market. They are all over the world and are very successful, but they don't do anything here. I wish they would!

You can thank the EPA and other regulators for making these fine automakers jump through a million hoops to bring diesel engines here which make it not feasible from a business perspective.

Perhaps the new marketing from BMW and Audi for their new diesel cars will smack the American consumer in the head enough to make them open to the wonders of diesel and create more of a market demand for diesel engines in other segments.

Seriously! almost 500ftlbs of Torque!? Twin Variable Geometry Turbos (which allow smoother spooling and power band)... I wonder if I could shoe horn this puppy in a 4th or 5th gen!

In '08 for SEMA Toyota made a "Dualie Diesel Tundra" with a Hino produced 8.0L Inline Turbo Diesel Engine producing 260-hp/585-lb-ft...and yet they were very adamant that the truck was not a "concept or prototype, but a special one-time project."

Though there are some rumors that Toyota is considering going with a Cummins PowerPlant option in the near future for the Tundra... but honestly I don't see why they don't just go with the 1VD-FTV in dual turbo flavor since they seem to have been doing pretty well in the Land Cruiser applications over seas from what I read (some issues here and there, but seems like all Diesels have issues.)

You can thank the big oil companies for not having diesel options here in the US. If we have diesel engines that get better mileage, that's less money in their pockets. It's screwed. Diesel is better for the environment, the soot falls back to the earth vs going into the atmosphere.
