2/1 Lift or 1" Front Only??

Need some advice from those of you who've done lifts.....Most of my driving right now is on the rode. I'm leaning toward's the 2/1 lift, but don't want the ride to be too stiff.

Those with 2/1 lifts......did you notice much difference in ride???

Thanks for the help. Found someone to help me with install today and want to get it ordered!!

I like the looks of the 2/1 , but even though I drive on trails as much as I can ect.... most of my driving is on road. I'm going to just do a 1" lift . It seems when you add a spacer to the rear it makes it a little harsher ride from what I have read. To me getting rid of the nose dive look is most important as far as looks go .

I really want to change the geometry of the truck as little as possible with the spacers. I'm already running the biggest possible tires 265/70/17's I can even with the spacer lift of 3/2 I would still need to cut and trim to make 285's fit without rubbing , not really worth it to me . Maybe if it was not a daily driver I would feel different.

Falls & Even Steven-I've read most of your threads on lifts and appreciate your comments.

Thanks very much for the input.

Falls-At your advice, I ordered a black grille for my SE this week. I'll post pics when I get it installed.

Thanks!!

Anyone else with a 2/1 lift care to comment???

Dont disregard the Daystar 2.5/1.5. It doesnt really change the ride at all. And if someone would post measurements of the CornFed inside the coil spacer and topout spacer you may even find that the Daystar inside the coil spacer is equal to or smaller than the CF. Remember it is the inside the coil spacer that increases preload and gives the stiffer ride side effect.

I guarantee you will have no regrets on this mod , It will give a much more stealth look to the front end.

I kind of still dont understand that. They both have a spacer that goes on top of the shock . correct ?? so what do you mean about a spacer in the coil ?? How much higher is the floor to wheel well top in back ? Is it enough that when you put a load on it , say 2" it would still be level ?

That stance in your picture is with the Daystar lift and 265/70/17 Revos ?? That looks perfect !

The 1" CF spacer is a top out spacer only.

That said, once you start going to the 2/1 or 3/2 CF kits you get a top out and an inside the coil pack spacer.

Examine the last pic in this thread to see the two spacers, and yes I know this is a CF 3/2.

Now that you see the two spacers, you need someone who has a CF 2/1 to measure the inside/outside spacers and compare them to the DS kit.

I am not sure of the answer, but it is possible that the CF 2/1 and DS 2.5/1.5 inside spacer are the same size, and it is even possible that the DS inside spacer is smaller. What I could tell you is the the CF 3/2 inside spacer is much larger then the DS 2.5/1.5.

Now it all depends what you want. A smaller inside spacer is less stiff. A smaller outside spacer reduces the possibility of over extension.

Thanks JA.

I appreciate the link , that truck is awesome looking. I really dont understand the whole preload stuff and dont know what I'm looking at to find that little spacer you talked about but I'll try to read up on it and learn a little more about how a suspension works.

If you ever decide to install your 1" spacer lift, you won't even have to worry about changing the ride characteristics. The small spacer required for a 1" front lift will not change the ride at all. Trust me when I say that I'm very sensitive to any changes in ride/handling, and I didn't notice any difference at all.

Once you start lifting the rear, you will definitely affect the ride. Even a 1" rear lift will be noticeable, from my experiences.

Steven , lol....I will get it on , just been busy as all. The leveling kit will do me fine for a daily driver.

What to the 3 bolts around the strut tower bolt hold in place ? Is there a plate with 3 holes on the top of the strut tower ?

One thing I noticed was that the front shafts that go out to the wheels actually go up about 2" to the wheel from the front axle housing. I was surprised to see that. Usually they come out of the axle housing and drop down to the wheel . Makes me think that a 1 or 2" lift would make that shaft come out level from the axle to the wheel.

Resurrecting an old thread since I too am looking at a Cornfed 2/1 or 1/0 lift kift for my '06 SR5. Anyone have anything new to add to the debate?

No problems with mine so far other than
this and I'm still not sure the lift isn't just enhancing it. Other than that I really like the lift and am looking to upgrade to some bigger tires soon.

I only noticed a difference for the first 5 minutes tops. After that, It doesn't feel different, because it's too hard to remember EXACTLY how it was before. You will be used to it in no time at all. I would go with the 2/1 lift because the 1 inch leveling kit isn't noticeable to anyone but you, and even you will barely be able to notice it much.

That's BS... I've had other 4Runner owners ask me how I raised the front end to make it more level with the rear. This happened at least three times now, once just the other day at the gas station. A guy with an '05 noticed it from across the gas isle and came over to ask me about it.

I much prefer the 1" leveling lift because the back is high enough already, and if you want to keep the stock tire size, I think it's the best choice. A 2/1 kit pretty much needs bigger tires to make it look right. If you go with 2/1 and retain the stock tire size, it makes the tires look too small IMO.

Well just as you think my comment was BS I think yours is too. The stock tires don't look bad with the 2/1. I will be putting 265/70/17 Nitto's on it, but the stock ones don't look bad at all.

How is the on road ride quality with the 2/1, especially when on the highway, at speed?

On road is slightly stiffer, but not a whole lot. I haven't taken it on the freeway yet though so you will have to find out from someone else on that one.

If the stock tires look so great after a lift, then why would you go with bigger tires? That's right, because you know they look undersized with the lift.

BTW, I didn't say anything about tire size was BS...I said your comment about not being able to notice a 1" front lift was BS. Of course you wouldn't know because you've never owned a 4Runner with a 1" leveling lift. Look at the pics in my lift thread and you can clearly see the difference between the before and after pics. Don't make stupid comments and I won't call you out on them.
