I need some help guys, I have (2) 4runners they are both solid, I'm having a hard time deciding which one to keep and which one to sell.

Here's what they are :

1999 4wd drive sr5 its got those badass cupholders lol,
Timing belt water pump and idler bearing / tensioner done 15k miles ago.
190k miles
California car

1998 limited edition with the factory locker
1 owner
No timing belt history
190k miles
Iowa car

They both have 190,000 miles The 1998 was from Iowa and it has some rust under the undercarriage but that's the only downside.

In 1999 the 4runners had taller coils so it's SITS up a little higher. And the badass cupholders lol
I'm planning on doing a small lift and investing some money in to one of these T4R, I just cannot decide which one to pick what do you guys think which one would you go with?

I'm California born and raised so I'm not sure if the rust is something to be concerned with maybe some of you Midwest fellas can let me know how bad it is.

Sell the rusty one.

If you have intentions to do some work lifting and building a truck, you'll be much happier doing it on a clean/less corroded version. Especially with the timing belt service done. That is a rather large investment if your paying someone to do it when your talking vehicles valued at 5k (ROUGHLY).

Midwesterner here. I'd keep the 99. The rusty one might be fine but there is enough rust to potentially be costly - money better spent on fun mods. The timing belt is just icing on the cake.

Hey thanks guys for the quick replies the one thing that's really getting me is the factory locker. I took the 99 out today in the hills and I was having trouble getting up a slippery slope in 4lo. Off topic but....

As I was trying to get up the slope I noticed there was a California Ranger in front of me so I decided to quickly turn around he pulled up next to me rolled down his window and he asked me "what are you doing up here, testing your rig out" than he asked me "do you have any guns in the car"? I said "No" he than said "do you mind if I search your truck"? I said "yes I do mind, but I don't have any guns in the truck." He asked me again if he can search my truck i said "no , but there's no guns in here". He said "ok I'll take your word for it, you can go". Flex your rights as an American! Don't let an officer of the law take your rights away.

So back the question. ..... keep the sr5...and f&ck the factory locker sell the rusty one? I've been going back and fourth with it... my gut is telling me 99 but today's slippage is chanting locker locker locker

My vote is for 1999.

Any price differential between the two?

I had a guy offer me $5500 for the 98 2 days ago pulled the cash out of his pocket and I turned it down, prices out here in California are ridiculous I listed it for $6800 and have had 6 emails on it.

I think the 98 could fetch $6000 out here to the right person, and the 99 I could get no less than $5600

You should take the elocker and put it into the 1999, and then sell the 1998 after that.

The locker and the rear axle are the most rusted thing on the 98 . I'm pretty sure I would have to swap out the whole rear axle assembly to make that work. Plus I don't know if the gearing is the same in both trucks.
