I ran the spare on the rack for about 6 months and had no problems with it other than I couldn't drive with it on there full time because the truck wouldn't fit in my garage. Taking that heavy ass tire off the roof by yourself every weekend sucked!

Just thinking out loud here...but is it possible for you to make a swing down tire carrier? As in swing down from the roof rack for loading and unloading the tire.

I might just be way out of shape, but I have no clue how you guys single handedly get a tire up there, that's like ~80 lb over head lift. My back would snap in half, lol.
