we've all made some mistakes along the way
takes a big person to admit some mistakes publicly. I am a complete idiot mechanically so I have made my share for sure.

are you taking about putting the axle seal in to far or pushing the cv axle in to far. If you are talking about the cv axle how do you know if you pushed it in to far

There's a snap ring that will make a locking noise when it's in the right way.

No the outer seal on the differential itself. When i put the CV in the first time i had it angled to much and and punched a dent into the seal and tore it. Then i went on a journey to find the seal which no one in Idaho carries. I was fortunate enough to pay the 21.00 for a new seal from the dealership.
When i went to reinstall the seal i had put it in backwards. Put the axle in, truck back together, drove it around the block and no leaks. Once i got on the freeway that SOB let loose and there was diff fluid everywhere. Back to step one.......remove, reinspect, realize, then install it the right way.
Round 2 FIGHT!!!Put it back together and this time i lowered the jack and angled it down so Fluid would leak out if it were going to. Sure enough it did....This time i realized even though i put it in the right way there are grooves inside the differential that tempt you to push it in farther than its supposed to go...Tempted i was...and leaked it did!
Round 3....Pulled the seal out until it was about 1/16 of an inch recessed into the differential and reinstalled again. Magical, no leaks on day 3 now. I think i got it right.
