20" Wheels

The reason that a lot of guys don't like the look of 20's they think its to bling. The so call true offroaders like the a larger sidewall that are better for offroading.

I'm pretty new here as well. mpressive or anyone else, can you explain how a larger sidewall is better for offroading? How much of a difference in offroad performance is there between the SR5 stock rim/tire size vs the limited stock rim/tire size?

Pretty big difference a lower profile tire of offroading is not the best option.

Bad:1. More of a chance of curbing your rims on rocks worth case popping the bead.
2. Less air in the tire so you can't let out air to create a wider footprint in sand or snow.
3. Tires are commonly more expensive.

That's why the Trail does not come with 20's but 17's

Just my opinion others may be different.

1) when in sand, you want to air down to increase the size of your tire patch. I normally air down my 17" tires to 15 psi on the beach. The tall side wall of a 17" tire is very flexible, and allows the tire to spread out, doubling the contact size. The 20" tires have shorter, stiffer sidewalls that do not allow it to spread out as much. Note that there are some folks who take their 5th Gen limiteds with 20" wheels out on the beach without problems, but I prefer the 17".

2) the taller sidewall provides more protection of the wheel from damage.

3) the taller, softer sidewall can deform better to adhere to rocks, trees, etc.

From a highway driving standpoint:

1) the 17" tires provide a softer ride, due to the taller sidewall.

2) The 17" tires provide better protection to the rim from potholes.

3) The 17" wheels and tires are lighter, thus giving less unsprung weight for a better ride. They also have a lower rotational inertia, probably providing slightly better acceleration, braking, economy.

4) The 17" tires softer sidewall will give the truck poorer turning performance and duller turn-in feel.

Some folks like the big-wheel styling of the 20" wheels. I don't, but whatever floats your boat.

I have a set of the 20" limited wheels for sale(brand new, bought my rig 4 days ago). Let me know if you want them! I live in the Los Angeles area but I'm also willing to ship.

I've got some 20" limited wheels on the other side of the country for sale. I'm in central NC and am also willing to ship if anyone wants them. They are perfect and include tires also. Tires have about 1500 miles. Looking for around $1000 also.

I don't mean to offend or upset anyone here but i think the SR5 stock wheels look better than the LTD orig. stock wheels.

I did a search, but did not find anyone who has put the latest 4th Gen wheels on a 5th Gen. I always liked that wheel and I think it would look good on my 2010 limited. Any thoughts?
