While driving, especially at freeway speed, my 4WD selector knob is wobbling, not enough to make noise, but wobbling enough that you can see it move side to side while driving. Is this normal? And if its not what can I do/try to fix it?

J-shift or straight? I''m thinking 2000 SR5 has the J-shift. If that is the only thing showing the wobble, it is probably the shift bushing. They can wear or break. Get new ones from Marlin Crawler. If 5-speed, do the main shifter bushings as well.If you can feel the wobble in the steering wheel, then there are a lot of things it could be.

If it is the straight one like the Limited and not the J-shift, get someone else to answer.

There is a very slight wobble in the steering wheel at about 70 mph, but nothing serious. It is a J shift. Do you know what it could be of there is wobble in the steering wheel? Thanks.

Wheel balance, bad tire, steering rack bushings, inner/outer tie rod ends or combination of the above. Rotate your tires and see if that helps. If it does, rebalance wheels. Check rack bushings by watching rack as a helper moves steering wheel back and forth with the engine running. If rack moves horizontally at all, bushings are shot. Get the kit from Wheeler's (link at right side of this page.) Check TRE's for play. Put front on stands and see if there is play when you push/pull wheels at 3 and 9 o'clock. Also check at noon and six for ball joints, etc.

I had a bad wobble in wheel and shifters above about 60 mph and I did new tires/wheel balance (needed new tires anyway), rack bushings, shocks (needed it anyway), and alignment. Each thing helped a little, but tires and rack bushings the most. Now it is rock steady up to 95mph which is faster than I want to drive the thing.

Thanks so much man, also, I am trying to find 4WD selector shifter bushings and I cant find anything, even on Wheelers like you recommended. Is there another name for them?

Sorry, it says these are for manual transmissions and mine is an automatic. Would the bushing still work?

The blue one is for the transfer case. If it is J-shift it will work. The red and white are just for 5-speeds and go on the main shifter, that you don't have. You would use the white one, if you did have a 5-speed (for the benefit of anybody searching.)

Alright, thanks so much. Is there any guides on how to replace the part?

I had two, and both links are dead. It's pretty easy. Pull console. Pull inner boot. I think the T-case lever is held in by a clip. Remove lever. Swap seat. Reassemble.

It's ok for it to wiggle a little bit right??? How much is too much??

It would be pretty hard to define, but I'd say typical movement is a little less than an inch to either side.

I thought mine was a little excessive so I replaced the transmission mount while I was under there doing some other work. It firmed it up a little, but nothing drastic.

If you're getting a lot of up and down motion as you go into gear that's probably an indicator of a bad mount, more so than side to side movement. Side to side while you're at a steady speed is probably more of an indicator of driveline imbalance, but again some movement is normal.
