2000 4Runner Audio System does nothing? HELP

I just purchased a 2000 4Runner. I LOVE IT! I got a great deal too. I bought it from a family member and it has been very well maintained and is in excellent shape. The only problem is that the radio doesn't work. I mean absolutely nothing. Any suggestions? I should mention that we discovered today that the initial owner who bought it brand new installed a Auto Command Remote Start module. Wish I knew why. Anyway, most of the thing is gone and there are lots and lots of wires wadded up under the dash. (No, there is more that that) We traced wire after wire today and they went nowhere. What a mess. I was told that the audio system worked just fine until about 6 months ago, when it suddenly just quit. Then day before yesterday it suddenly came on and worked fine for a little while. Since then - nothing. Anybody - please - any ideas? Thanks so much!!

Going to be really hard to tell what is going on until you pull the radio and see what kind of wiring rat's nest is up behind it.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say when the remote start module wiring got wadded up there it loosened up one of the radio harnesses.

Might be as good a time as any to upgrade to an aftermarket head unit, and wire up a switch for manual control of the power antenna if so equipped.

Thanks!

Thank you for both replies. Had pretty much decided to get rid of the remote start!! Next we are going to take stereo unit out of dash and see what kind of mess (scary thought considering what we already found) is hiding there. I will post an update as soon as I can.
Keeping fingers crossed. May be back with more questions.
