My family has actually owned 2 Rodeos, both bought brand new. The first one was a 93 that was in the family for 235,000 miles (I got it with 190,000 on it) with no major issues which I have been told is amazing for that truck. My dad then bought a 2002 2WD Rodeo because he loved the old one so much and at 85,000 he had to have the transmission replaced (under warranty). I was told that was a common problem with that body style Rodeo but the new transmission was supposed to be much better.

I got rid of the 93 Rodeo for my 02 2WD 4Runner about a year and a half ago. When I bought it it had 105K on it. It now has 123K and I have had no problems out of it. It is a rock solid truck that when taken care of will last forever. If the truck has been taken care of I would not hesitate to buy it. My dad even seems to love my 4Runner better than his Rodeo now LOL :biggrin2:

thank you for the info
how do you like the ride of your 4 runner vs the 2002 rodeo

The difference in ride is isn't much but I like them both. I like how I sit in the 4Runner much better than the Rodeo. I sit too high in the Rodeo and there is more leg room in my 4Runner IMO.

The 4Runner is far far far more reliable. If you go to carsdirect.com they have info on a lot of used cars that lets you compare side by side things like overall storage area, leg room, inches above your head, inches of hip width or something like that, cargo space with seats folded down, turning radii, etc. etc.

When I think of the Rodeo I think of the Honda Passport. When honda finds a winning automobile they pretty much make it forever. Honda dumped that design because they were having too many problems with that engine.

For anyone that didn't understand this, the Honda Passport was the Isuzu Rodeo rebadged when Honda was trying to get into the SUV and truck market. Honda was smart and dumped it. Their CRV and Pilot are incredibly reliable but the CRV is based on the Civic and the Pilot is based on the Odyssey mini van.

Thanks for stating that for me. Being that I was a Honda salesmen at one point I sometimes forget that people might not know things like this.

I had a 2000 rodeo before I bought my 04 runner. The 4runner is way more comfortable in all ways; smoother ride, smoother power, more comfy interior etc. It just has a tighter feel to it. I would say the same about a 3rd gen runner. Interior space is comparable but you get a larger cargo area.

My rodeo had ~75,000 when I sold it and I was extremely happy to see it go. It never had major issues but it definitely had a lot of little quirks that drove me nuts. Some electrical problems, some stalling issues, hard jerky shifting on occasion and it was a rattle trap. I have never once questioned my decision. I say go for it and get the runner, you wont be disappointed.

If you were expecting to hear anything positive about the Isuzu compared to a 4Runner I think you've asked the question in the wrong place :)

Actually you can ask anywhere and the Rodeo will not come out better than a 4Runner on anything but price. My dad got his loaded 02 Rodeo brand new for 20K out the door. My old 93 Rodeo was a great vehicle and very reliable for the whole 235,000 miles it was in the family. My dad loves the 02 Rodeo that he has now. The Rodeo really isn't a bad vehicle at all, but that doesn't mean that it is better than a 4Runner. I will say this though: My dad's 02 Rodeo can smoke the crap out of my 02 4Runner. 235hp>185hp :biggrin2:

I never said that I street race, especially in my SUV. At the same time, it is nice to have the more power on the freeway for passing and things of that nature. I still wouldn't get rid of my 4Runner for a Rodeo. :p

Is that red a single stage urethane paint?

I dunno. When it was done it was done by a body shop that sponsored the car club I was in at the time. I know it is base and clear at least though. The car was dirty because I didn't know they were coming to take pics of it LOL so that is why it looks dull.

Thanks. And I don't think the Rodeo sucks, but at the same time:

4Runner > Rodeo :biggrin2:
