I have a 2000 Limited 2WD Auto currently. See the link for pictures if your interested. Eventually, I may possibly turn this into a weekend wheeler when I get a new vehicle. Granted it is a couple of years away, I want to go ahead and get some information and research done. My current plan is swap a manual transmission and transfer case in but leave it as a 2WD to get any bugs worked out and let the funds catch back up for the next phase. Then do a SAS and possibly a rear upgrade later on if I continue with this platform.
What kind of electrical issues or parts am I looking at replacing to goto a manual? Is there a difference in 2wd/4wd transmissions that can't be overcome easily? Are all 3rd gen transfer cases modular, or will I run into electrical or bolting up issues? Any input on whether to go with a factory parts or go ahead and upgrade to Marlin parts?
I saw COB's build, but I'm looking to go a little different direction. We also have different motors, but it looks like they use the same trans just different bell housings? I'm not against getting a wrecked 4Runner for parts, but the above questions would still apply to find the right setup unless I went all Marlin parts from the beginning.
