2000 TR4 Front Bumper Replacement Options

I've always had SR5 / Sport TR4s or Tacos as I always liked the simplicity of those models over the Limited. However, I found a nice clean Limited 2000 TR4 locally not too long ago and I couldn't pass it up. I'm enjoying the "upgraded" features and learned to live with the plastic trim, but I just can't learn to like the "lip" front bumper.

So I'm wondering what my options are here. I do not mind at all going aftermarket, but I want something simple. I have no need for a winch or anything crazy, though an added tow rope connector wouldn't be a bad idea. I REALLY like the 96-98 factory style flat bumper look on the TR4's . Has anyone successfully replaced the 2000's "lip" bumper with one of those?

My Runner is black and has the tan plastic limited trim. Thanks!

I looked quite a bit and it seems you either go stock and modify yourself or full on mad max road warrior. It would be great to find a decent looking front bumper, no winch support needed that also allowed increased approach angles. Sadly I never found anything. Would need to custom fab it.

sleepydad Exactly! I'm not looking for some "fury road" type of craziness. After looking further, I'm loving the simplicity of the Savage bumpers, the cost isn't bad at all either:

I like the flush look of them especially without the extra bars.

nowashburn one thing I also did... get the install instructions. a lot of bumpers require you to cut/grind the frame rails and weld on new end caps. while I don't think it's a big deal to do that, it's still more than I was willing to do. once you grind off OEM stuff your not ever going back to stock. just in case that is something your looking to do, and to tell you truth I'm glad I went with 4x innovations front because they bolt right up to the factory mounting points.

sleepydad funny you say that, was just reading in the instructions that you do indeed have to grind the stock bumper stops off for the savage. I saw the 4x innovations ones as well that look really nice. Do you have a pic of yours? Thanks.

That's an Outdoor Logic bumper, unfortunately they are no longer in production, but I believe they are the best looking bumpers for 3rd gens.

there are a couple of shots in those albums.

I hot dipped galvanized mine so that is not for everybody, you can get it without the bull bar as well I think. 4xinnovation guys were great.

I think most of the bumpers out there require you to cut things off, I just did not want to do that in case I wanted to go back to stock. bumpers are very personal taste, just like wheels. everybody has their own taste.

Team_Jake darn, that looks exactly what I'm going for. I do like the savage ones I'm seeing on their website still.

sleepydad that looks excellent, thanks for the picks. is that a 4x rear bumper setup as well? how much of a lift do you have on that thing? looks great all around, very similar to what I'm hoping to end up with.

My CBI Offroad bumper is a direct bolt on but it may
be a bit more than you want. Maybe they offer one w/out
the bar. Not sure.

nowashburn I have icons with 2.5" set in the front and toytec 3" springs in the rear. I like a little rake in my setup, levels out once loaded with camping junk.

yes the rear is a 4x as well, I did cut the tire carrier and put a 10 deg angle on it, I just like the angled look. I added the camp table to the back myself, was not hard.
