2000 vs 2001

I'm looking at buying a 2000 4runner Limited. Is there a big difference between this year and 2001 or 2002? I want to have a reliable and big SUV and have heard 4runners are great. I love the look of them too. I need to haul DJ gear, bikes, etc, and it looks like a fun off road SUV! The reason I'm looking used is I'm only 17.

Found one at a dealership where my family knows the owner, so maybe can get a good deal. Its a 2000 Limited, seems fully loaded. It has 84,000 miles and is listed at 12,988. But this is a dealership so hopefully I can get a good deal.

How reliable is it buying a 4runner that is almost 9 years old? As a junior in high school, I want this to last me a while (through college at least).

I would say as long as you take care of it, it should last you through college.

Being 17 isn't necessarily a good thing on this forum, as I have found out. I keep getting new ideas everyday on ways to spend money.

hey dude im 18 and freshman in college... and i think 4runners might be the most popular car at my school (right behind all the pretty girls with jettas and civics) but yeah these things will last forever. but being 17 is a problem. i have had my runner for about a month now and im already trying to push money into modding it. i have a couple hundred on the way for audio, another hundred or so for muffler and im doing electronics after that...

while looking for parts and stuff i have found it easier to find stuff for a 2000 rather than a 2001, though theyre the same gen. it seems to be easier to find 2000 parts.
for the amount of miles and the year of the one at the dealership you should be able to get a better deal. i got mine for 9700 (craigslist, not a dealer though) it had 71k miles on it, nly 2WD though and SR5, not Limited...

ps. my SR5 has absolutely all the same features, except leather... but you should still get that thing down to like $10 at most, i just think their price is a lot. but yeah, thats a dealer for ya

3rd Gens are known to go over 200,000 miles, so asuming your not going to put 23,000 miles on it a year, I think you will be fine.

I've had mine for a little over a year now and have only put about 3,000 miles on it. When I go to college I'm sure it will be even less.

KBB has a "Good" condition 4runner like the one you are looking at priced at $8,200. That is the private party value. I would say the dealer will be a little more, but I would not pay $4,000 more. That is insane.

I just bought a 2000 SR5 for 9,000 plus tax and tags. It only had 75k miles on it and it's 4WD too. You should be able to talk them down a lot though. I bought mine from a Toyota dealer. They were asking 10,900 and it's flawless.

i got over 211,000 miles on mine, and it is now starting to fall apart, i mean little things are breaking..... and noises are starting to come up.... so i just turn the radio up louder! works for me!

Anything new in the A pillars? Did the A pillars change shape? Still trying to figure out if a 2000 lotek A pillar gauge cluster will fit a 2002.
