2001 4Runner Sport Edition Questions....

Hi all, great web site! I’m new to it so here goes with my questions regarding my 2001 (3rd generation) 4Runner Sport Edition that I want to do upgrades and repairs to.

First, I’m due for a brake job soon, my first one at almost 90,000 miles. I want to upgrade the brakes by either upgrading the rotors or brake pads. I’m open to suggestions for any type of upgrades.

Second, is I’d like to know if any one out there is using a K&N replacement air filter. I’m curious to know if it’s worth buy since I read that it does increase horsepower.

Third, is my antenna is not working, the motor seems to work (you could hear it when the radio is turned off ) I’d like to know if it’s something simple to fix.

Welcome. What color is your sport? Post some pics!

And all of your questions are pretty common ones around here. Do a few searches and you should find plenty of answers.

For the brakes, search tundra brake mod. That's a good upgrade to your brake system.

For the filter, search deckplate mod. And while you're at it, search ISR mod. Those will both help and cost less than a K&N.

For the antenna, search broken antenna. The teeth of the power antenna commonly break and it's fairly easy to replace it for a new one. Another option is to look up the Tacoma whip mod. Essentially it's swapping out the power antenna with the fixed one found on the Toyota Tacoma.

K&N air filters are decent, Just be sure to not over-oil them. And combining a new filter with deckplate and ISR (intake silencer removal) is essentially getting the results of a Cold air intake system, for way cheaper.

Also, since you're at 90k miles, don't forget you are going to need to get your timing belt/ water pump serviced at the dealer. That's a $600 job
