2001 keyless remote

Can someone please explain the proper operation of the keyless remote. I am a new member and would like to know if mine are working properly. I will post some pictures of my 4runner as soon as i figure how to do so. I purchased it back in december and love the quality of this toyoya. I got rid of my 2004 rubicon. There is no comparison to the quality of the two vehicles. This 4runner runs like a clock and is built like a rock.

By working properly i mean, is the 4runner supposed to lock by itself? It locks the doors without me touching the remote. This one does not have an alarm just keyless entry. Please excuse my manners Hello eveyone I am new to this site and look foward to making some new friends here. I have been checking out this site for about 5 months now and decided to join. If you unlock the doors but then do not open one of them then they relock themselves after a few minutes. If you open a door then it/they stay unlocked.

wm 69 is right. If you unlock it using the remote and do not open any doors within about 30 seconds then the vehicle will lock on its own. However when you exit the vehicle it should not lock without you hitting the door lock on the interior or the door lock on the remote. And it should definitely not lock with the keys in the ignition.
