2001 Rear Suspension Opinions

Hey man is your 4runner 2wd? I remember seeing it on icon's website covered in mud. Also what size of tires are you running? Also how do the rear springs handle in the back, are they soft or are they stiff? Thanks

Yah its 2wd. Really on Icon's website? That's funny (I just looked them up), I forgot that I had submitted those photos to them. The pics were from like 2 or 2 1/2 years ago when I had just the Donahoe coilovers up front (before the TC long travel).

The tires are 265/75/16 right now.

Hoping to get the rear up a bit to put 285/75/16 when I need new tires.

Any word from any of your buddies that are running long travel on their 4runners as far as what they are running in the rear?

Ya most of them are running OME 891s. One of them just bought the icon shocks and he says they are well worth the money. I think I might save up and buy those

Cool man. I know, I'm sure the icons are worth the money, its just whether or not I want to try and save up the extra money for them. My springs right now are pretty soft. Far from stiff. That's why I was looking into some new springs. But even at that I've never ridden in another 4runner so my mine may not be as soft as I think.

where did you get your fenders? they look good!

I bought them direct from Glassworks Unlimited in Huntington Beach. Awesome fenders. I love them.



I ended up going with the SS 1.2 kit. have a couple offroad trips on them now. Love the kit. It rides awesome and make the truck level with the TC long travel in front.

2001 4Runner Suspension Rear 2wd

Very nice ride! I went through this dilemma two years ago after a lot of research. Of course I did not do enough to figure out I could use Fox Shocks on the rear or I would have. I have Sway Away 2.5's up front and OME Medium and OME Sport Gas shocks in the rear. Not happy at all with the rear set up. Way too stiff. God bless he rock crawlers but I DO NOT ROCK CRAWL. I wanted a suspension set up more towards desert high speed. Just two years ago there was not a lot of threads on this type of set up so its nice to see. I do not tow anything. So does anyone have ideas on a more plush rear set up to match my sway away up front? I will look forward to selling the rear set up to anyone that would like a stiffer rear suspension. Where I live there a tons of potholes, RR tracks and jacked up streets much like the rest of California.
