2001 SR5 Miles per gallon

I have had my 4Runner for almost a month and now I have enough miles to get a good average for miles per gallon. After about 2K miles, I am averaging 18.72 miles per gallon. That is mostly city driving with some Highway mixed in. The truck has almost 200K on it and it is in very good condition. From what I read, this is about average for the year of this vehicle? What kind of mileage is everyone else getting?

Thanks is advance.

Joe

I bought my 4Runner in 2000 new. It now has 360,000 miles and got 18 to 19 mpg until I did a 2" lift and installed Goodyear, Wrangler DuraTrac 265/75R16. MPG dropped to 15 to 16. That was three years ago and at that time it had 290,000 miles.

I have a 3 inch lift with 265/75 on. I usually get 16 on the interstate running 75. Just seems like it doesnt have enough power to pull intself any faster with shifting down all the time.
You answered your own question. Oversize tires and 75MPH = lower mileage guaranteed.
Mine has a 2 inch lift and stock size (but heavier than stock) tires and a manual trans. I get 19 MPG at 75 MPH. But I get about 21 MPG at 60-65 MPH. I'd probably get 23 or 24 if I could manage to go 55 MPH in 5th gear for any length of time.
I only measure mileage on the highway because I don't drive the same route or commute from day to day and around town.

That's still pretty good mpg's for those hwy speeds. What is your cursing RPM in 5th gear on the highway?

Mine's an automatic and I always wish 4th gear was just a tad more overdriven/taller for highway driving. I once had a 5speed manual Scion and while it got great mileage at roughly 60mph, I swear Toyota geared that thing for autocross. In 5th @ 70 mph were buzzing at 3K rpm. Hated that about the car.

Here's some info on mine and when I started tracking...

And a hint into when I decided to lift it and throw 295's on it (including deckplate mod, k&n & airraid)... LOL

BTW app is called fuelly if you're curious... Pretty slick for a free app, just have to remember to use it at the pump.
