2001 transfer case shift actuator timing

Does anyone know the correct way to fix or achieve the correct timing for an 01-02 transfer case shift actuator?

Recently replaced the shift actuator after 4wd light started blinking and tracked the culprit down to the shift actuator. However light are still blinking and im pretty sure the timing is off.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

What is the overall symptom(s)?

Have you checked the FSM for procedures?

Any pending or lit CEL codes? :cowboy:

Have not checked fsm and i highly doubt there is any info on setting the timing for the shift actuator. However I can check.

Symptoms: 4wd dash lights started blinking and 4wd wont engage.

Crawled under car to check the 2 sensors on actuator. Noticed crack in actuator and small amount of fluid leaking from actuator. Looked like previous owner tried patching with jb weld.

Purchased used actuator but almost certain during install i messed with the timing. So 4wd lights still blinking and no 4wd.

Well here is a link to the FSM: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B20d86M4DqTrVU5wUHhyUVN4OWM

Did you test the old and new part by adding power to see if there are differences in the two parts? Meaning the old part may move when power is added when not attached but it may not be strong enough to move when installed. The newer one should react with more force.

I'm no TC expert but it may help to look up the R&R section of the FSM in search of tips/tricks to putting it back in correctly. Hope this helps you. But there are true 4wd experts on here that may be able to pinpoint your situation, keep posting. :cowboy:

Thanks and I appreciate at your advice

Update:

Ive found the right position to align the gear on the shift actuator (i think). The lights stop blinking until i hit the 4wd button. Then it starts flashing repeatedly. Any other position the 4wd lights blink immediately after started the car.

Last night i unplugged all the sensors related to 4wd on the shift actuator (transfer case) and on the 4wd actuator (front diff), unplugged the battery and let it sit overnight.

Same thing this morning, no flashing lights unti i hite the 4wd. But this time i hit the button rapidly and repeatedly for 5 consecutive times and then boom, there was a loud knock like the front diff engaged and the lights stopped blinking and stayed solid illuminated. The yellow light was also lit up so i hit the center diff lock switch and and soon as i did the 4wd disengaged and the lights began flashing again.

So close but so far!!!!

That's good news. Could be the transfer case switch shorting. Have you checked the list of transfer case problems on page 1104? :cowboy:

Do you or anyone else have any experience with front diff 4wd actuators?

Ive been messing with the transfer case actuator and i feel like its set and good to go. This morning i messed with it and got the flashing 4wd indicator to stop. Went for a drive pressing the 4wd button trying to get it to engage. The flashing dash lights are back but i can also hear a slight grinding or metallic sound coming from the front diff. It sounds as if it wants to engage but cant.

So i decided to to pull the actuator off the front diff. My question is are you supposed to be able to move the fork freely? I can kinda get the fork to move up and down but it will not move side to side. Not sure if it is supposed to move easily and freely or not.

Hard to believe that a cracked and leaking transfer case actuator can then lead to a front diff actuator problem.

Anyway thanks again.
