2001 Upgrade

I was wondering if someone could send their opinions?

I'm thinking of two upgrades, the first....K&N intake setup and then the cat back exhaust. I would like to add these items in the said order.

Here On My Concerns:
1. No performance improvements.
2. Decrease in fuel economy.

I drive a great deal for my business and with the cost of fuel, I can't afford to spend more on gas. Right now I am paying $1.939 here in Connecticut.
What is the general thoughts on this subject?
