2002 Audio Upgrade

I would like to upgrade the audio system in my 2002 SR5. The stock 6 speaker system leaves a lot to be desired. I would appreciate any suggestions from members who have traveled down this path with a 2002 4Runner. What worked? What would you not do if you had to do over again, etc. Recommendations for the speakers. Recommendations for the head unit.

I have an '03 but I'm sure you could still get comparable parts for your '02. Check out my thread on my audio system...the link is in my profile. Anything Alpine is great. JBL is another excellent name. My advice would be to shop around Crutchfield because they have, hands down, the best research materials and product reviews available. Use www.pricegrabber.com or Yahoo Shopping to find the parts however...I saved myself at least $1000 over the Crutchfield prices. As far as recommendations go, it all depends on what you want, how much you're gonna spend, and who's going to install it.
