2002 SR5 Sport Edition 4runner upgrades

So I recently purchased an 02 SR5 Sport Edition and I had several questions about what exactly fits it and what doesnt. (Application will be moderate offroading nothing too extreme)

Tires? (Nitto Terra Grapplers?)
Lift Kit? (ToyTech?)
Brush/Bull Guard?
Roof Rack?
Ladder? (Gobi?)
Lights? (KC HiLites?)
Muffler? (Flowmaster 40 series?)
Winch?

And fill free to give me any and all opinions on what y'all think would look good or work well, or if I'm missing anything crucial.

First get all the maintainer up to date. I just baught a sr5 with 112k and did fuel filter, plugs air filter ect and it runs a lot better.

144k, and it runs like a dream haha surprisingly actually, but i did replace the airfilter.

Congrats on your purchase. You are lucky that you have a sports hood. I am desperately looking for one in a junkyard that is already Stellar Blue.

I would suggest buying Weathertech floor liners - first and second row. I have the tan liners and they look good in my interior. The fit is amazing on them. You can see mine in my build thread. They make tan, gray and black.

I would change all your fluids (ATF, Gear Lube, Oil) to 100% Synthetic.

Tundra Brake Upgrade in front.

Tires I personally like the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armour tires in 255/75R/17 size.
On FJ Cruiser Rims.

3" Toy Tech Lift

I have a WAAG brush guard just the center section, I like it.
If my current Off Road/Fog lights decided to die on me I would replace today with a LED light bar on the brush guard that is Spot/Flood, Amber and around the 30,000 Lumen range.

Muffler I would suggest a Borla 40665, quiet at idle, nice little growl at WOT.
Combine that with a Airaid Jr Kit with the Synthamax dry air filter and deckplate mod.

Replace running boards with Sliders.

Don't waste you time/money on "guards" - you'll be really sorry when you have a fender bender, happened to a friend of mine already. Get an ARB bumper setup instead, now that is tough and Cool Looking!

Bumpers and Plates

I found that CBI has a decent line of front/rear bumpers both with and without swing arms (dont go with guards, they will end up causing more damage than they will save in a fender bender). You can also get some Skid Row Offroad plates for it, just make sure you get the right style for your transfer case.

^ Super agree don't role with the guard. Go ARB much stronger plus a place for a winch.

I'm also going to say do maintenance on it first. Once it's baselined you can start modding. You're going to get a million suggestions, so I'm just going to say this...take your time and think carefully about what mods you want. When I got my Runner, I was so eager to mod it that I just slapped on a bunch of stuff without really thinking about it. Felt like a kid going in for his first lay.

I would LOVE an ARB bumper, but there is no way I could possibly pay $1000 for a bumper. It's just not in the budget. I am aware of the whole "brush guards hurt more than they help" thing which is true for the most part. I want a brush guard for going though the incredibly thick brushed up areas that cover my property. Any suggestions?

I've been looking at the Rage Powersports Black Widow Roof Rack. Does anyone have an experience with it? I'd be getting the rack, extension and fairing.

Ok, so I actually found a great deal ($500) on a Smittybilt Defender rack with lightcage and 2 pencil beam Hella rallye 4000s and 2 flood rallye 4000s. He sent me an odd picture on the mounting brackets and Im not sure how they mount to the existing rail system, could anyone explain?

It looks like the bracket which fits into the existing "channels" that your stock roof rack slides into. This is the preferred method rather than a cage that utilizes the stock cross bars for mounting. Generally because the in-channel bracket is much more sturdy and allows the rack to sit closer to flush with the roof line.

If it's $500 including the lights, I would snatch it up in a heart beat.

Congrats on the rig too! I also just bought an 02 Sport Edition. If you ever decide to remove the Sport Edition badges on the front doors, shoot me a message. They are a pain in the a$$ to find in good condition lol

Definitely will do! Haha I figured out a way to rig it and it's solid now haha now I just gotta figure out how to wire it
