2002 Throttle Body?

I have a 02 SR5, its running like crap again and throwing the code for the IAC. I understand the IAC is built into the throttle body and the whole unit must be replaced.
I'm having a hard time finding a TB at local parts stores, and would like to keep the cost down as much as possible, so I'm hoping to avoid the dealership.
I do have a friend with a couple of earlier 3.4's who said he would give me the TB off one. Can the older style be retrofit?
if not, any place online I can find a replacement cheap?

2001 and 2002 are the only years you can use I believe. In 2001, the 4runner switched from a cable throttle control to drive by wire. A retrofit would be pretty tricky. From what I've seen, that particular 3.4L with the drive by wire setup was only produced for 2 years.

I just looked around and I think you're going to have a tough time finding one. Best bet would probably be keeping an eye out for a wrecked 01-02 that you can get the TB off of. Good luck.

this drive by wire setup, is it cable assisted or something? there are cables that control throttle response. I just assumed they were actualy attached to the petal.

On the older models, there are 3 cables that go onto the TB, cruise, kickdown and throttle. I'm not sure what yours looks like, how many cables go into the TB?

They are, or one is, but it only opens the throttle part way. Try it with the engine off. The cable is just a back-up for "limp-home" mode. The throttle is really controlled by the servo motor on the throttle body.

I think that's a great question. I don't know the answer. I have a '99 and I have followed the FSM recommendation to NOT clean the IAC or allow crud down the hole since Day 1 and I have yet to have an IAC problem at 165k.

But if I were in your shoes--looking at replacing the whole TB--I'd shoot it full of TB cleaner and blow it out with compressed air. Rinse and repeat a few times. It won't hurt the sensors as less TB cleaner would get to them than during a normal TB cleaning and it might work.

But I'd rather hear from somebody with a method that has been tried and worked.
