Looking for any helpful information regarding our problem...here are the details:
2003 4 Runner Limited V8
235,000 miles
Original owner - purchased new
ABS, TRAC OFF & VSC lights have been illuminated for some time. Car was taken to mechanic months ago and the code read "rear wheel speed sensor" which we were told was not a major issue and not to worry about.
Two days ago while driving the car there was a terrible scraping noise when braking. Decided to take the car to mechanic but before we could get there (within an hour) brake fluid was all over our garage under the rear driver side tire.
Mechanic said we needed brake pads, calipers and rotors and did all repair work. Not sure of the details on this part but they were having problems getting the brakes to "bleed right" and when they contacted us again we were notified that the ABS Pump is stuck in the "on position" and will not stop pumping. This was the cause of all of the fluid leakage. Were told whole ABS system would need to be replaced. This was also the reason for the extreme wear on the brake pads, calipers, rotors.
Mechanic is very trustworthy and fair and we have been using him for a long time. He said he has never run into this type of issue before.
Anything that can help us find a work around for this expensive repair is appreciated!
