2003 4Runner 2WD V8 shocks recommendations?

Hi all,
I have a 2003 4Runner V8 2WD that I bought from new. Now it has 136000 miles. The only thing major that was done was timing belt/water pump/drive belt/spark plugs when it had 100k miles (beside oil/fluid change).

I just noticed that the passenger side rear shock had leak (not dripping but coated in shock oil). The shocks are original. I'd appreciate some help from all of your expertise here:

- I assume I better replace all 4 shocks, front and rear? Can I just replace the 2 rear shocks as I think I can do it myself?
- what's the recommendation?
- where can I order them from?
- Reading the shop manual, I think I can replace the rear shocks easily, but the front shocks are probably out of my capability. I don't have a spring compressor.

Depends on if it has xreas or not. If it does then te all have to be changed? I don't believe that sr5's came with xreas but I'm pretty sure all sports did and some limiteds. You can easily tell though buy looking to see if the shocks have a hose connected to them.

What are you looking to do? An OEM replacement? So it rides like new? Or do you want to lift/level it?

Sorry. Mine doesn't have xreas. It's just a plain 2003 sr5 2wd V8.

Bilsteins are really nice shocks, regardless of if you're lifting, but if you buy the 5100s you'll have the option to level and make it look better :) Not to mention, you can get a set of 4 5100's for ~$350

Thank you! I also read here about the 4600. What's the difference?
What's a good place to order? I'm in Calif.

The 4600 is designed for stock ride height and stock springs.

The 5100 is designed for leveling the front and 0-2" lift in the rear with stock springs.

The valving is the same, the 4600 are yellow & the 5100 are silver.

Yep. I'd just say go with the 5100, as you'll spend ~$20 more per shock. And if you do so decide to level/lift, you have the option.

actually 5100's can be had for 311 shipped but youll have to wait on the back order issue

you can get the 5100's from 4wheeler parts see above tho
 
You can also use the bilstein shocks from a tacoma. And. Can get them with little to no miles for much lower cost and they are readily available on ebay, craigslist and tacomaworld.com
 
I'm not much help, but just saying I have an 03 2wd Sport with the 4600s in and I like them. They're 7 years old as well and holding up fine. Truck has a little over 180k now.
 
What's the correct Bilstein part numbers for the front and rear shocks?

Some listed them as:

front: 24-188401
rear: 24-186049

Some listed them as:

front: W0133-1917947
rear: W0133-1926398

I'm confused...
 
Shouldn't need them unless your old ones are messed up or you just want to replace them. If you are going to reuse the stock springs you have to take all that off any way.

Thanks for the comment. I just thought that my 4Runner has 135k miles and the strut mount may wear out or something.

From the picture I saw on the web, the Bilstein front shock came with some kind of mount, is it? This is the picture:
