2003 4Runner SR5 V8 Water Leak on Front Floor

Hello everyone, I just purchased a 2003 SR5 V8 w/ 98k on it. A few days after I purchased it, I noticed the front carpet on both sides of the truck were saturated with water. I have done a ton of homework on this, looking into the Sunroof drains, AC Drain, Firewall grommets etc. I pulled the carpet mold, and covered my whole cab with baby powed in an effort to track where the water was coming in. Yesterday I finally narrowed the source down to the cowl drains. Thats about as far as I've been able to get. Some how, once the water drains through the wholes at the extreme ends of the cowl, it is making its way through the firewall and into the cab. Does anyone have any knowlege relating to these particular drains? Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like the auto body glue/sealer is broken. has the truck been in a crash? if someone replaced the inner fenders and did not seal it up correctly it will leak.

also perhaps a bad windshield install??

I'm thinking windshield. Look to see if it says Toyota on it in one of the 4 corners. If not, it isn't Toyota windshield and that could be the cause.

Sorry for the delayed response guys. I'm definitely not trolling, HAHA! I was expecting an email notification that my post was responded to. Also, I've used some forums where I just never get any responses. So thank you for the input, I appreciate it.


So I had a friend who works in a body shop look at it. He said, it looks like something fell across the hood and windshield, as those are the only areas that have had body work. Yes, the windshield has been replaced, however the leak into the cab only occurs when water is flowing heavily into the cowl drains. These repairs were done on both sides of the truck, and it seems they were consistent with their screw ups. I plan on removing both fenders this weekend and seam sealing everything possible. Hopefully this will take care of the issue. If not we will be removing the entire dash and sealing from the inside.

Possibly the drains right next to the hood hinges? Those are right inside the fenders.

Dl46, did you resolve your issue? I suspect my vehicle had some body work to the front right fender. I can see silicone caulk at the seems. If you did resolve the leak, were you able to do it by removing the fender? Or did you have to go at it from the interior?
