2003 4Runner wheel question.

I have a 2003 4Runner Limited V6, now, with 265/65-17s.

I have a set of 1998 OEM 16" alloys with 245/75 BFG A/Ts on them from my old 4Runner that I would like to use as off-road wheels on the new 4Runner. There is slight interference with the calipers. Does anyone know the proper spacer size required to solve this interference?

I realize that I could take back-space measurements, etc., but I'm up North in the bush at a drilling rig, and the wheels are in my shop a 1,000 kilometers away. I want to order the spacers so they'll be there when I get back.

BTW, the 17" OEM Dunlops suck big time in mud. The 4Runner has 1500 kilometers on it now, one flat already, and won't move in the mud.

Does anyone else miss the Generation 3 ground clearance?

Other than that, a very nice truck. Better power, gas mileage (already), interior room, and ride.

I sure hope someone here has, or can find the answer for me.

I've noticed that you've been waiting for anyone that can help ya!

Unfortunately, I don't think anyone has bothered to change their 17's in for 16's. Since the 4runner is too new, there aren't really anyone here modding them. Also I'd say it's probably best to stay away from spacers as they can cause problems unless you get longer bolts.

BFG's has some good a/t's out 265/70/17 and 285/70/17
m/t's out for 285/70/17.

Obviously the 285's will require lifting but unfortunately there are no parts available. hopefully by the end of summer parts will be available then.

I was hoping that someone had tried this, and could confirm that a 1/4 inch spacer would be sufficient. I'll definitely scrap this idea if it requires anything greater. AFAIK, a 1/4 inch spacer shouldn't require extended studs, but if I'm wrong, please feel free to correct me.

When I get back to civilization, my first step is to fab up the equivalent of a quarter inch spacer, to test my theory on one wheel, before ordering the real thing.

If that works and you don't need extended studs, then i know you'll definitely be a life saver for all the 17" owners who wants the 16's!!!! (not sure on if you need to extend the studs...)
