2003 Door Lock Problem (chattering, no lock, etc)

I was replacing the cable for the door HANDLE because it broke--just a wear item that had too many cycles.

The new door HANDLE cable is cheap and easy to replace. HOWEVER, when it got it all back together, the door LOCK does not work. I tried adjusting it, fiddling, etc., but no locking.

It does this: https://youtu.be/99v2LpftaUI

The only thing that changed was the new door HANDLE cable, which is a bit shorter (maybe because it's not stretched out like the other one?). I was thinking that the new HANDLE cable puts just enough tension on the door actuator to cause some kind of difference--total shot in the dark here.

Or, the door actuator just finally crapped out when I was replacing the HANDLE cable. Plausible, because I had to take the actuator all the way out and put it back in--repeated this twice after LOCK problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance. :brushteeth:

Did you ever get this figured out? My front passenger door started doing this and will not lock.

Same issue here. I just replaced the lock actuator and its good as new.
Replacement was easy, it only took about an 45 min. Theirs a guy on eBay that sells refurbished units for $50.00 that comes with a life time warranty, but you will have to send him your old actuator as a core exchange. Or you can buy a new one for $100.00

The cheap fix is to replace the motor inside the actuator, part is like $4.00

My Youtube video. I placed a link in the comments on how to replace the actuator.

Your door lock actuator is bad. It’s a pretty easy repair. Expensive part if you buy new OEM but you can buy aftermarket or refurbished. Refurbishment is basically taking one apart and replacing a small motor in them so you can go that route for a super cheap fix with more involvement.
